Finance and Payroll Officer

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Finance and Payroll Officer to support the day-to-day finance operations within Deaf Action. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will be primarily focused on accounts payable activities and processing payroll. This is a hands-on role, ideal for someone who enjoys working collaboratively with colleagues, and taking ownership of day-to-day finance operations.

Key Responsibilities:
Day-to-day of the role:
· Manage the end-to-end purchase ledger function (invoice & payment processing, supplier and expense management, record keeping & reporting)
· Process supplier invoices and staff expenses accurately and in line with organisational policies and prepare payment runs (BACS, FPS)
· Perform monthly reconciliations of accounts and investigate discrepancies
· Enter daily cashbook transactions
· Process Petty Cash
· Process organisation credit card transactions
· Maintain accurate, well-organised, and up-to-date financial records
· Work closely with budget holders and the wider finance team to ensure accurate coding, authorisation, and reporting
· Manage the finance email inbox and respond to daily queries
Month-end Support:
· Assist with month-end procedures
· Post monthly journals
· Monitor monthly stock count
· Process intercompany transactions
· Maintain the fixed asset register
Payroll:
· Processing monthly payroll for up to 100 employees accurately and in line with company policies
· Calculating wages, overtime, deductions and payroll adjustments
· Liaise with HR regarding new starters, leavers, and changes
· Pension auto-enrolment administration and submissions
· Maintaining secure and accurate payroll and employee records on Sage 50 Payroll
· RTI submissions (FPS/EPS) and full HMRC compliance
· Statutory payments (SSP, SMP, SPP)
· Working collaboratively with the Finance Manager and HR Department to ensure smooth payroll operation
Person Specification:
Essential:
· Proven experience in accounts payable or finance officer role
· Strong experience in end-to-end payroll
· Sage 50 Payroll knowledge
· Competent with finance systems and Microsoft Excel
· Confidence working independently while being a supportive team player
· Professional communication manner
Desirable:
· Broader finance department experience
· Experience in a charity or not-for-profit setting
· AAT qualified or actively working towards AAT (or equivalent) The ideal candidate will be fully committed to our values, which can be found on our website.
