Job Summary
The main function of the Administration Officer role is to support the work of HSE Inspectors in frontline operational delivery. In HSE our purpose is to prevent work-related death, injury and ill-health. We apply a range of regulatory tools to improve health and safety, bringing together different interventions to achieve that impact. We influence and engage stakeholders, create knowledge and awareness of health and safety risks, and encourage behavioural change through assessments and direct interventions including inspections and investigations.
In this role you will contribute to the important work HSE & Energy Division does. You will work closely with your colleagues to deliver the key responsibilities of the post. You will be flexible and able to respond to changing work priorities at pace, which will allow you to develop your skills and knowledge. In all that you do you will be, proactive, innovative and focused on delivering HSE’s business, as well as able to plan and prioritise your work. You will be required to provide support on both a local and national basis according to business need.
The work of Energy Division covers a number of sectors in the regulating and promoting of health and safety in some of Britain’s major hazard industries including gas storage and transportation, Offshore Oil & Gas Extraction, Onshore Gas, Mining, Quarries, Renewables (Wind & Marine) and diving. Going forward new challenges will arise in response to Climate Change, Net Zero and the Energy Transition agenda.
Part time working hours are available for these roles. We can accept part time applicants who can commit to working a minimum of 30 hours per week.

Hybrid Working

There will be a requirement to travel to the office for various activities, e.g., collaborative working, supporting and training colleagues. If hybrid working is suitable for you and your role, you will be expected to attend the office, or other business-related site, for 40% of your working week. The arrangements will be determined primarily by business need, but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account.

Sift Information
At sift, you will be asked to submit a statement of up to 250 words on the lead behaviour ‘Delivering at Pace’ and a Personal Statement of up to 500 words detailing how you meet the Essential Skills and Criteria for the role.
The sift will take place from Week Commencing 25/05/2026.
IMPORTANT: Please be advised that the sift will be conducted on a knock-out basis. An initial sift will be conducted on your 250-word statement based upon the lead behaviour ‘Delivering at Pace‘. Candidates who meet the standard for the 250-word statement element will be progressed to a full sift in which the Personal Statement will be scored. If you do not meet the benchmark for the 250-word statement, you will not receive a score for your Personal Statement.

Interview Information
Interviews will take from week commencing 08/06/2026 This is a blended interview consisting of Strengths and Behaviours.
Please be advised that the Lead Behaviour ‘Delivering at Pace’ will also be used to determine outcomes in the event of a tie-break situation.
