With the present expansions in knowledge base, skilled workforce, and research and development (R&D) infrastructure, India is well-positioned to play a major role in biotechnology to address global concerns and improve quality of life.To cater to this increasing need for trained professionals, St. Xavier’s College began the MSc-Biotechnology programme affiliated to the University of Mumbai from the academic year 2007-08. Under the umbrella of academic autonomy and NEP 2020 implementation , the programme offers extensive training in cutting-edge technology to tackle global needs in Biotechnology Research, Product development and Bioentrepreneurship, thus enabling students to prepare for careers both in India and internationally.Programme – MSc Biotechnology (4 semesters)Total no of seats: 30Eligibility Criteria: BSc in Biological sciences (Biotechnology/Biochemistry/Botany/Life Science/ Microbiology/ Zoology) with Chemistry upto SYBSc level or BSc in Chemistry with Biology courses upto SYBSc level.Selection Criteria: The admission for MSc Biotechnology programme in St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Mumbai will be based on the merit list derived using the following weightage:Score obtained in the entrance examination -70% weightage.Qualifying BSc examination percentage (SEMESTER 5 and 6/ SEMESTER 5) – 30%weightagePlease note that provisional admission will be given based on Sem V marks subject to the student passing Sem VI and handing in proof when released by the University.Contact: biotech.dept@xaviers.eduCourse details: https://sites.google.com/xaviers.edu/biotechnology?pli=1The total fees, including deposit and laboratory fees, as sanctioned by the Board of Management, St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous):COURSE Fees for A.Y. 2026–27 Fees for Batch 2026–2028 Part 1 1,20,000 1,20,000 Part 2 1,20,000 1,20,000Note:i) Fees are subject to revision, and any updates will be communicated accordingly.ii) A document verification fee of ₹1,250 is applicable to students from boards other than Maharashtra Board.iii) The fee for Part 1 of Batch 2026–2028 will be as mentioned above.
