US Tax Senior Manager

(Asset Management) – Cayman Islands

About The Role

A top firm in the Cayman Islands is seeking a US Tax Senior Manager (Asset Management).

You will provide comprehensive and specialized tax assistance tailored to the unique needs of the asset management industry. You would join our client’s US tax professionals who are knowledgeable and experienced with varied and specialized facets of hedge fund, private equity fund and mutual fund taxation, including fund and organizational structuring, tax compliance, and on-call advice.

Key responsibilities (not exhaustive)

• Leading tax compliance and advisory work for clients in the asset & wealth management industry.
• Working on key client issues in domestic federal, international and state and local taxation with a focus on implementing tax strategies that align with the client’s business objectives.
• Reviewing extensive securities analysis, making appropriate tax adjustments, and providing sign-off for the production and delivery of K-1s and partnership tax returns.
• Analysing trading reports for tax character and booking tax differences, such as wash sales, constructive sales, straddles, and other securities issues.
• Reviewing partnership agreements and private placement memorandums for tax implications of items such as book and tax allocations, stuffing provisions, management and incentive fees
• Running the day-to-day activities on the accounts that are spread across various locations.
• Teaching or assisting with firm in-house trainings.
• Building impactful relationships with new and existing clients and maintaining relationships with the firm’s leadership.
• Identifying key tax technical issues and raise the appropriate questions before the work is sent for review to the Partner and consult when necessary.
• Managing multiple work assignments and deadlines.
• Keeping up to date on and apply your knowledge of current and pending U.S. and cross-border tax laws and policy developments to advise clients on an array of business tax matters in the Investment Management industry.
• Developing high-performing people and teams and lead business development opportunities.

The requirements

• At least 7+ years’ US tax experience at a Big Four or Top 10 accountancy firm.
• Holds an internationally recognized professional accounting or legal qualification: CPA, CA, ACA, ACCA, JD/LLM or Enrolled Agent (EA).
• Exposure and understanding of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code with in-depth experience serving clients in the wealth & asset management industry, which may include mutual funds, hedge funds, private equity funds or other investment vehicles
• Broad exposure to federal income taxation and exposure to state and local tax.
• Experience in assisting with the development of new business (desired but not required).
