Job Description
This is a temporary post for one year only, designed to give resident doctor experience in trauma and orthopaedics with the aim to prepare candidates for ST3 interviews.
The rota will consist of two 6-month posts. These will include on call cover to support the acute trauma rota as well as an elective specialty.
The main duties of the post will involve pre-operating sessions, post-operative care, theatre lists under consultant supervision, attending outpatient clinics including fracture clinics and On Call shifts on a rota which does include day, night and weekend shifts, attendance at MDT’s for trauma, and in some instances subspecialty MDT meetings.
The doctor accepts that he / she will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation where practicable with his / her colleagues, both senior and junior. It has been agreed between the profession and the Department of Health that while juniors accept that they will perform such duties, the Secretary of State stresses that additional commitments arising under this sub-section are exceptional and in particular that juniors should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.
