Job OverviewAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a Support Medical Secretary to work within medicine division based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Shrewsbury. Fixed term and Secondment considered. Please have agreement from your line manager to support before applying. The post is for 9 months working 37.5 hours per week across Monday to Friday. The post holder will join a team of Medical Secretaries who organise the workload of the Consultants within the department and ensure that an efficient service is provided. You should already possess 4 GCSE’s (grades 9 – 4 or C – A) or equivalent, RSA stage 3 typing, word processing (or have equivalent experience) and knowledge of MS Office The ability to plan and prioritise a varied workload is essential, as are good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a variety of staff groups at all levels.Main duties of the jobThe post holder will produce accurate clinical and general correspondence, regularly using complex and sensitive medical terminology from audio transcription. They will also be required to respond to telephone calls from anxious and distressed patients, responding appropriately to contentious, sensitive and difficult enquiries.
