The purpose of this post is to provide strategic and operational leadership across a range of key library, heritage, and information services, including the At Home Service, Administrative Team, Digitisation, Reference and Local Studies, and Heritage Services. The role is responsible for developing and modernising information, digital, and online services; maintaining and improving library collections; and ensuring high‑quality public information provision in support of lifelong learning.
The postholder will lead and support staff, manage service budgets and financial processes, oversee the use and development of ICT systems (including the Library Management System), and act as a primary representative for the service in relevant partnerships and consortia.
The role also co-ordinates requests for access to library‑owned images and film, promotes services to diverse client groups, and works collaboratively with internal and external partners to enhance service delivery and identify funding opportunities.
In addition, the postholder will act as the main point of contact in the absence of senior managers and ensure that all services under their remit operate safely, sustainably, and in accordance with council policies and statutory responsibilities.
