This is a project-based operational role, ideally suited to those who enjoy working closely with teams, engaging directly with the workforce, and driving meaningful cultural change.You will champion our Rethinking Safety programme—shifting the focus from traditional compliance-only approaches toward curiosity, collaboration, and understanding how work really happens. This is not about doing more paperwork; it’s about doing things differently, with purpose and impact.What You’ll DoAs Health & Safety Manager, You WillLead and champion the Rethinking Safety Programme across the project.Coach and support teams to develop the soft skills essential for safe, collaborative working.Drive positive investigations, appreciative enquiries and meaningful engagement with the workforce to understand how success is created.Carry out fatal and severe risk assessments and provide assurance of effective risk management.Challenge non–value‑adding bureaucracy to help teams focus on what really matters.Promote innovation and help embed new technologies, tools and ideas that strengthen our approach to safety.Influence senior leaders by providing insight, discovery feedback and guidance.Act as a key contact during interactions with regulatory and enforcement bodies.Lead safety maturity planning—setting goals, driving progress and reporting performance.Support incident investigations, ensuring timely learning and action closure.Promote cross‑project learning through internal media and social platforms.Ensure adherence to all relevant statutory requirements and the implementation of the Safety & Environmental Management Systems.What You’ll BringA minimum Level 6 qualification in Occupational Safety & Health or related discipline.Technical expertise in safety risk management and wellbeing.Membership of a relevant professional body.Strong communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels.Proven ability to coach, mentor and inspire teams.Curiosity, empathy, and the ability to engage openly and constructively.Confidence to analyse information quickly, make sound decisions, and remain level‑headed in high‑pressure situations.A positive, forward‑looking mindset—embracing innovation, improvement and new ways of working.Personal credibility, trustworthiness and a strong sense of integrity.Ambition, energy and the motivation to work toward demanding goals.Why Laing O’Rourke?Joining the Brighton 3Ts Phase 2 project means joining a team that cares deeply about how work is done—not just what is delivered.
