We are seeking a super-organised individual who is looking for a part-time, flexible role, working term time only with a mix of office and home working. If you are looking for something different from fixed working patterns, this is the role for you!
Our friendly, established team works with nursery, primary and secondary schools and academies to ensure the smooth running of governors’ meetings and contribute to effective governance. Good governance contributes to improved outcomes for children and young people in our communities and this role plays a vital part in delivering that.
As a Governance Support Officer you will hold responsibility for the preparation of meeting agendas, the taking and distribution of minutes, ongoing governance support, record keeping and the provision of procedural and legislative advice to governors.
You will have proven excellent organisational, communication and ICT skills and have the ability to take accurate minutes at meetings. The ability to quickly build effective professional relationships with senior leaders and volunteers along with a can-do attitude and commitment to team working will help you enable good practice.
Weekly hours will fluctuate depending on the meeting schedule of the schools supported and this will include some evening work.
We currently support settings within a 50 mile radius of York and due to the location of some schools to be supported in this specific role, the successful candidate be required to travel outside the city into East Riding and Hull, so applicants must have a full and current driving licence (full details will be discussed at interview).
Additional ad hoc work supporting governors’ panels for exclusions and complaints is also undertaken by team members on a claim basis. Travel and unsociable hours allowances apply to this post. Full training, support and IT equipment will be provided.
This role is not suitable as a job share opportunity.
As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C2: Can express themselves spontaneously at length with a natural conversational flow, avoiding or backtracking around any difficulty so smoothly that the person with whom they are conversing is hardly aware of it.
Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
City of York Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all employees and volunteers to share this commitment. We require the successful candidate to undertake an enhanced Criminal Record check via the Disclosure and Barring Service.
The Council is committed to investing in the talent and wellbeing of our staff and can offer a generous annual leave allowance, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, comprehensive Health & Wellbeing initiatives and a reward package which recognises your contribution. We can offer flexible working practices, community engagement and volunteer activities and, as part of our commitment to you, promote continuous Learning & Development. In addition we also offer a growing range of discounts, rewards and savings.
For further information or an informal discussion please contact Helen Marshall-Groot – Head of Governor Services at helen.marshall-groot@york.gov.uk or on 01904 554210.
