Mainly office hours however some flexibility will be required. This post is offered on a fixed term basis for 2 years.What You Will DoThis is an exciting opportunity for a Family Support Worker with experience in supporting neurodivergent children, young people and their families. You will support families across East Ayrshire through a programme of direct support. The support will be designed with the family based on a neuro affirming assessment of strengths and challenges. You will co-design and deliver a short-term empowerment plan that is practical, solution focused, strength based and has specific pre-determined outcomes based on the family needs. This support will be delivered in a neuro affirming way with all suggested support strategies designed with neurodivergence in mind. Work with these young people and their families will be person and family centred. The support will be focused on building confidence, increasing knowledge, self-esteem and the capacity to be able to work towards personal outcomes when the support ends. Specific areas of support will be varied but may include challenges relating to school attendance and engagement, relationship and social isolation and executive functioning (including emotional regulation). This list is not exhaustive, and specific support will depend on the needs of the family. You will be expected to:To work flexibly and innovatively with children, young people and their families diagnosed or undiagnosed with a neurodevelopmental condition and their care partners.To deliver a specific programme of pre or post diagnostic support using the model of support agreed by the East Ayrshire Children & Young people NDD Programme Board To actively listen and empathise with clients, guiding them to an understanding of their difficulties.To use person centred principles to implement basic problem solving strategies.To guide clients in the use of self-help materials.To provide follow-up sessions as required.To build family resilience.For further information on the role please click the link below to view the job descriptionKnowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:Knowledge of children young people or family support or social support skills and practices acquired through NVQ’s plus additional training to Diploma level equivalent, or equivalent through short courses and experience.Must have excellent interpersonal communication, verbal and listening skills.Must have the ability to learn new skills quickly.Must have a good understanding of neurodevelopmental conditions and associated challenges and strengths.
