The Data Quality Analyst Assistant role supports our engagement with a major UK infrastructure group that is currently expanding its project pipeline. This position exists to ensure that the massive amounts of data flowing into our financial models are accurate, consistent, and grounded in reality. About Blue Oak Consulting Blue Oak Consulting provides independent advisory on pricing, portfolio economics, capital allocation, and acquisition assumptions. We are not a traditional consulting firm focused on broad transformation programs or high level strategy decks. Instead, we interrogate specific commercial decisions where the financial stakes are high and the existing narrative is not sufficient. Our team looks past corporate language and P&L complexity to identify where value is leaking or capital is trapped. We work across sectors like software, manufacturing, and healthcare to test whether the assumptions behind a growth plan or an acquisition actually hold under pressure. We are a small, principal led firm where the people who do the work are the ones accountable for the results. We do not take transaction contingent fees, which allows us to be completely honest about whether the economics of a decision make sense. Our goal is to provide clarity through financial discipline and a healthy amount of skepticism. We stay through the execution phase because decisions that look sound in theory often fail when they meet real world friction. The Role In this role, you will be the first line of defense in our analysis process, working in a fully remote environment. You will be responsible for validating the raw data that feeds into our independent assessments of project economics. While many firms take data at face value, our approach requires us to question the source, the logic, and the consistency of every number. You will spend your day looking under the hood of financial reports and operational logs, looking for the gaps that others might miss. This is an entry level role suited for someone who prefers technical accuracy and clear logic over corporate storytelling. What You Will Be Doing Reviewing raw data from infrastructure project sources to identify errors, missing values, or illogical entries. Reconciling disparate financial datasets against operational maintenance records to ensure project reporting remains consistent. Testing the data assumptions provided by third parties to see if they hold up against historical performance trends. Standardizing data architecture across multiple spreadsheets to prepare information for complex financial modeling. Identifying and flagging outliers in cost reports that might suggest financial leakage or project inefficiency. Assisting in the creation of data summaries that help our principals see the true economic health of a project. Helping to build internal cross checks that verify the integrity of the data we receive from the client. Documenting anomalies found during the validation process for further discussion during team reviews. What You Bring A degree in finance, economics, data science, or a similar field that requires quantitative skills. Advanced comfort with Excel, including the ability to use lookups, pivot tables, and data cleaning functions. A persistent and naturally skeptical mindset when reviewing professional documentation or spreadsheets. High attention to detail, with the ability to spot a single incorrect digit among thousands of data points. The ability to follow complex logical instructions while working independently in a remote setting. Clear communication skills, particularly the ability to explain a data error without using unnecessary technical jargon. A genuine interest in how large organizations spend money and how capital projects are managed. Basic knowledge of financial statements, such as balance sheets and P&L reports. What We Offer A fully remote work schedule that emphasizes results and output over hours spent in an office. Competitive pay for an entry level position that recognizes the high level of accuracy required for our work. Direct exposure to the firm’s principals, providing a level of professional education rarely found at larger firms. A working environment centered on financial discipline, where honest analysis is valued more than groupthink. The opportunity to work on high stakes projects for a major infrastructure group during a period of significant growth. Full support and training on our specific analytical methods and financial questioning techniques. Working at Blue Oak Consulting represents a break from typical junior consulting roles. We do not ask our team to create aesthetically pleasing presentations that lack substance. Instead, we ask for data that has been thoroughly scrubbed and verified until it can withstand the scrutiny of a high stakes investment committee. Your role ensures that the advice we provide to our infrastructure client is built on a foundation of facts rather than optimistic projections. In a small, principal led firm, your ability to provide clean and reliable data is the most valuable contribution you can make.
