Clinical Scientist – Nuclear Medicine Full Time

The Role

Nuclear Medicine is part of the Department of Clinical Physics & Bioengineering (DCPB), one of the largest medical physics and engineering services in the UK. The Nuclear Medicine service provides a full range of diagnostic imaging, nonimaging tests, theragnostics and radionuclide therapies across multiple major hospital sites in NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, supporting around 45,000 patient investigations annually. Our teams work across Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Gartnavel General Hospital, the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, and the Royal Hospital for Children, providing specialist services regionally and nationally. You will be part of a friendly, skilled, and dedicated multidisciplinary team including clinical scientists, technologists, consultant clinicians, radiographers, nurses, and administrative professionals. We are seeking a highly motivated Clinical Scientist to support the delivery and ongoing development of Nuclear Medicine services across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

Glasgow has several outstanding museums and art galleries, is the home of Scottish Opera and Scottish Ballet, as well as several internationally renowned orchestras. The city is within 30 minutes of the beautiful Loch Lomond area and an easy drive to several ski areas. The city is a perfect base for those interested in outdoor pursuits such as climbing, walking and mountain biking. Visits to the Department and to meet other staff are strongly encouraged. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

• This is a panGlasgow role with a base site at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and routine working across all Nuclear Medicine sites within the service
• 36 hours between Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00

Key Responsibilities

• The post holder will provide specialist scientific, clinical and technical support to a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine services, including SPECT/CT, PET/CT, nuclear cardiology and radionuclide therapies
• Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to image analysis, interpretation and reporting, act on the duty physicist rota, and support safe and effective service delivery in a highly regulated clinical environment
• You will play an active role in radiation protection, quality assurance, equipment performance and clinical governance, ensuring compliance with IRR17, IR(ME)R and relevant Scottish regulations
• The role also includes involvement in research and development, teaching and training of staff and students up to MSc level, and support for service improvement initiatives across the Board

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

• HCPC registered Clinical Scientist with specialist experience in Nuclear Medicine
• Final year trainees on a formal Clinical Scientist training programme considered for appointment at Band 6 until HCPC registration is achieved
• In depth knowledge of Nuclear Medicine procedures, instrumentation, quality assurance and radiation protection
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to interpret complex clinical and technical information
• Ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively within a large, complex multidisciplinary service
• Experience of supporting, advising and working collaboratively with clinical, scientific and technical colleagues
• Commitment to continuous professional development and delivering safe, high quality patient focused care within NHSGGC
