PRESCRIBING SUPPORT PHARMACY TECHNICIAN

Salary Scale: £34,544 – £43,039

The NHS Lothian Primary Care Pharmacy and Medicines Service is undergoing an ambitious programme of transformation and integration. Pharmaceutical care is provided by a team of around 100 pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and administrators, working across General Practices covering the whole of Edinburgh.

As part of the Edinburgh HSCP’s commitment to expanding clinical capacity in line with the Scottish Government’s Achieving Excellence strategy and the development of the Pharmacotherapy Service, we are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic Registered Pharmacy Technician to support key prescribing initiatives across GP Practices in Edinburgh.

In This Role, You Will

• Work closely with GPs, practice staff, community pharmacists, care home staff, the HSCP multidisciplinary team and central pharmacy colleagues.
• Support the development and delivery of highquality, safe, costeffective and evidencebased prescribing.
• Contribute to individualised patient care within GP practices, the pharmacotherapy hub, care homes, and other healthcare settings.
• Participate in HSCP prescribing projects and promote awareness of prescribing management issues.
• Support the training and supervision of other members of the primary care pharmacy team.

Essential Requirements

• Current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
• Excellent communication, IT and organisational skills.
• Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a wider team.
• Will require Enhanced PVG Scheme Membership with NHS Lothian

HNC / Equivalency Requirement

Candidates should normally hold the Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Pharmacy Services Development and Management. However, applicants who do not hold the HNC but can demonstrate equivalent professional experience may also be considered.

As from 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
