Job Overview

The Foundation Training Programme Director (TPD) is jointly responsible for the overall management and quality control of the North Bristol Trust Foundation programme.

The postholder will work with the local lead educators to ensure that each placement within the Foundation rotations and the programme as a whole meets the NHSE and UKFPO training range of experiences which will enable them to gain the competencies necessary for full registration and completion of foundation training.

The postholder will become a member of the Postgraduate Medical Education team with wider educational support as required.

Main duties of the job

Education

The TPD will work in close partnership with the DME, the Foundation TPD team, Head of Medical & Dental Education, Postgraduate Team Leader and the NHSESW Foundation School to:

• Manage and quality control the training programme.
• To ensure the training programme meets the requirements of the educational contract.
• To build a programme of rotations to meet the educational aims specified and mapped to the curriculum.
• Chair and Co Chair Annual Review of Competence Progression panels.
• Liaise with NHSESE Foundation School and represent the group at management and committee meetings.
• Provide pastoral support to learners with additional needs both physical and wellbeing in nature.
• Provide a robust induction, teaching and supervision programme for all trainees.

Work Experience

Essential criteria

• Experience in postgraduate and/or undergraduate medical education
• Experience of being an educational/clinical supervisor at NBT

Desirable criteria

• Evidence of educational or service development and managing change

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Essential criteria

• Be aware of clinical and corporate governance in relation to medical education
• Must be able to demonstrate initiative and judgement to identify potential problems and generate solutions
• Evidence of supporting trainees

Desirable criteria

• Have knowledge of commissioning services and management structures in medical education

Personal Qualities/Special Circumstances

Essential criteria

• Excellent communication skills to deal with a wide range of staff of all grades and professions
• Excellent team member who can demonstrate motivation and enthusiasm in self and others
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
