Peer Support Worker – Safe Haven, North Tyneside Full Time NEW

Salary: Enhancements paid for evenings, weekends and bank holidays

Hours: Part-time – 18.5 hours per week

Working pattern: Monday to Sunday between 2pm – 10pm

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Peer Support Worker to join our North Tyneside Safe Haven!

This role is ideal for someone who has personal lived experience of mental health challenges and recovery, and who is now in a position where they feel able to use their experience to support, inspire and empower others.

As a Peer Support Worker, you will draw on your lived experience alongside your skills and training to offer hope, understanding and practical support to people accessing the service. You will help individuals explore their strengths, build resilience, and connect with opportunities within their community that support wellbeing and recovery.

You will also play an important role in promoting the service, helping people understand how the Safe Haven can support them, and contributing to the collection and recording of data in line with reporting requirements.

About The Role

• Support people in the community, including those experiencing mental health challenges, to build resilience through activities, service involvement and community engagement.
• Use your lived experience of recovery to provide empathetic, non-judgemental peer support.
• Support individuals and communities to identify and take part in activities that promote wellbeing and healthy lifestyles.
• Work with a range of people to understand their needs and help improve access to support services.
• Proactively reach out to individuals who may need additional support and connect them with appropriate services where needed.
• Promote the role of peer support and contribute to the ongoing development of the service.
• Record and report activity in line with organisational requirements.
• Undertake any reasonable duties and responsibilities required to meet the needs of the organisation.

About You

• Experience of working in a similar role or supporting others with their wellbeing.
• Experience providing 1:1 peer or support-based conversations.
• Personal lived experience of mental health challenges and recovery, with the ability to use this insight to support others in a safe and constructive way.
• Understanding of recovery in the context of mental health.
• Awareness of local support pathways and services.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Good customer service and relationship-building skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust with a range of people.
• Confidence using IT systems, including Office 365
