An LSE Fellowship is intended to be an entry route to an academic career and is deemed by the School to be a career development position. The Department of Social Policy at LSE is the longest established in the UK and has received the highest possible rating in all Research Assessment Exercises carried out in the UK. The 2026 QS World University Rankings by Subject place the Department of Social Policy 4th in the world.
The Department addresses the major intellectual questions surrounding the analysis and evaluation of social and public policies, the social challenges they address, and their outcomes. We are distinguished by our multidisciplinarity, our international and comparative approach, and our research conducted in high-, middle- and low-income countries. We have particular strengths in: poverty and inequality; work and welfare; education; care; women; race, ethnicity and migration; non-governmental organisations (NGOs); crime and criminal justice; climate/environmental policy and behavioural public policy.
We are looking to recruit an LSE Fellow to teach on our BSc and MSc in International Social and Public Policy. You will be able to make important contributions to teaching and supervising our undergraduate and postgraduate students, while also being fully engaged in our vibrant research culture.
Candidates should have:
- By the post’s start date, completed or be close to obtaining a PhD in Social Policy, Public Policy or another area related to the needs of the post (such as but not limited to Economics, Political Science, Sociology);
- The ability to teach economics of social and public policy, and other departmental courses in international social and public policy;
- Experience of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level;
- The potential to produce internationally excellent publications in international social and public policy;
Additionally teaching-related administrative experience, including working with virtual learning environments (e.g. Moodle), would be an advantage.
