Job Title: Café Assistant
Reports To: Café Manager / Supervisor
Location: Blends & Beyond

JOB PURPOSE

To support the daily operations at Blends & Beyond by delivering excellent customer service, preparing high-quality food and drinks, and maintaining strict food hygiene and cleanliness standards in line with UK regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIESCustomer Service

• Welcome and serve customers in a friendly, professional manner
• Take accurate orders and handle payments (cash and card)
• Provide menu knowledge and make recommendations
• Ensure a positive customer experience at all times

Food & Drink Preparation

• Prepare hot and cold beverages (coffee, tea, specialty drinks)
• Assist in preparing café food items (sandwiches, pastries, light meals)
• Ensure consistent presentation and quality
• Follow recipes and portion control guidelines

Food Safety & Hygiene

• Follow all food safety procedures (HACCP / Safer Food Better Business)
• Carry out daily temperature checks (fridges/freezers)
• Ensure correct food storage (labelling, dating, FIFO)
• Maintain a clean and sanitised working environment
• Report any hazards or concerns immediately

Cleaning & Maintenance

• Complete daily opening and closing cleaning tasks
• Clean equipment, utensils, and work surfaces regularly
• Maintain cleanliness of customer areas including seating and toilets
• Ensure waste is disposed of correctly

Stock & Deliveries

• Check deliveries for quality, temperature, and dates
• Store items correctly and rotate stock (FIFO)
• Inform management of low stock or issues

Teamwork

• Work effectively as part of the team
• Follow instructions from supervisors and managers
• Support colleagues during busy periods

REQUIREMENTS

• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced café environment
• Basic food hygiene knowledge (training provided if needed)
• Reliable, punctual, and well-presented
• Flexible with working hours, including weekends

WORKING HOURS

• Part-time / Full-time positions available
• Shift-based work including mornings, evenings, and weekends

ADDITIONAL NOTES

• Staff must adhere to company policies and hygiene standards
• Uniform/dress code must be followed
• Ongoing training and development may be provided
