What difference will you make?
This role plays a vital part in ensuring that Scouting across the District is safe, well-supported, and able to deliver high-quality experiences for young people.
By helping adult volunteers complete their training on time, the District Training Manager ensures that leaders have the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to run engaging and safe programmes. This directly supports the development of young people, giving them opportunities to build skills for life.
The role also helps the District stay compliant with mandatory training and safeguarding requirements, reducing risk and ensuring we meet national Scouting standards. By proactively monitoring training and supporting volunteers, it helps prevent avoidable suspensions and keeps more volunteers active and engaged.
In addition, by organising accessible first aid training and providing clear guidance, the role removes barriers for volunteers, making it easier for them to succeed and continue in their roles.
Overall, the District Training Manager strengthens the volunteer workforce, improves retention, and ensures that Scouting can continue to grow and have a positive impact in the local community.
What are we looking for?
We’re looking for someone who is organised, approachable, and confident communicating with a wide range of adult volunteers.
Strong organisational and administrative skills are essential, as the role involves monitoring training records, tracking deadlines, and coordinating courses. You should be comfortable using digital systems or willing to learn, with good attention to detail and the ability to manage information accurately and confidentially.
You’ll need to be able to communicate clearly and professionally, offering support and encouragement while also being firm when following up on outstanding training. A proactive approach is important—someone who can identify issues early and take action to keep things on track.
The ideal volunteer will enjoy helping others succeed and be able to build positive working relationships across the District, including with Group leaders and the County Training team.
Experience in administration, training, or compliance roles would be helpful, as would any previous involvement in Scouting. Full support and guidance will be provided. What matters most is a positive attitude, reliability, and a commitment to supporting volunteers and upholding the values of Scouting.
Hybrid
What will you be doing?
As District Training Manager, you’ll support adult volunteers to stay up to date with their required training and feel confident in their roles.
You’ll monitor training records using our digital systems, identify volunteers who are approaching deadlines or have outstanding learning, and provide clear, supportive guidance to help them complete it. A key priority is ensuring mandatory training is completed on time, helping maintain safe and high-quality Scouting across the District.
You’ll also coordinate first aid training, organising courses to meet local demand. This includes working with approved trainers, securing venues, managing bookings, and ensuring training records are updated promptly after each course.
Communication is central to the role. You’ll act as a first point of contact for training queries, providing straightforward advice and encouragement. You’ll work closely with Group Scout Leaders, Assistant District Commissioners, and the District Commissioner to support volunteers locally and address any training gaps.
You’ll be part of a supportive team within the District, working in partnership with the County Training team to ensure volunteers are well-trained, compliant, and able to deliver great Scouting experiences.
