The Role

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Quality Control Officer to join our growing team. You will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing our Food Safety and Quality Management processes, ensuring compliance with legal, customer, and BRC standards.

Working closely with Stock, Sales, Warehouse, and Operations teams, you will support audit readiness, drive continuous improvement, and champion best practice across the business.

This role includes regular direct communication with customers, requiring a high standard of professionalism, accuracy, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Assurance & Compliance

• Review, implement, maintain, and monitor Food Safety and Quality standards.
• Ensure compliance with BRC, HACCP, allergen controls, and legal standards.
• Conduct Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), hygiene, and internal compliance audits.
• Verify product compliance against internal and customer specifications.
• Manage non-conformances, corrective actions, and root cause investigations.
• Support external audits and inspections (BRC, customers, authorities).

Operational Monitoring

• Carry out daily temperature, hygiene, and Critical Control Point (CCP) checks.
• Monitor warehouse conditions, storage, FIFO, traceability, and segregation.
• Oversee completion and accuracy of quality monitoring documentation.
• Perform equipment calibration and verification checks.
• Quarantine and report non-conforming products.

Reporting & Data Management

• Produce quality reports, KPIs, and trend analysis.
• Maintain accurate digital and manual records.
• Support continuous improvement through data-led insights.

Training & Culture

• Deliver food safety, HACCP, and hygiene training.
• Promote quality awareness across all departments.
• Act as an active member and Leader for Food Safety as part of the Stock Team.

Customer & Stakeholder Communication

• Act as a key point of contact for customers on quality, compliance, and food safety matters.
• Respond to customer queries and complaints in a professional, timely, and diplomatic manner.
• Prepare clear, accurate, and well-structured email responses relating to quality issues and investigations.
• Communicate technical information in a clear and customer-friendly way.
• Support complaint investigations and provide written reports and follow-up actions.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
• Represent Food Republic professionally in all written and verbal communications.

Stakeholder Management

• Liaise with internal teams and management, suppliers, customers, and regulatory bodies.
• Support customer complaint investigations and quality-related queries.
• Build strong relationships across departments to embed quality standards.

The Person

Essential Skills & Experience

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in a QA/QC role within food manufacturing, distribution, or catering.
• Strong working knowledge of HACCP, BRC, and food safety legislation.
• Minimum 1 year customer service experience
• Level 3 HACCP and Level 3 Food Safety (or willingness to complete).
• Experience in chilled/fresh/short shelf life food environments.
• Experience preparing for and supporting audits.
• Strong analytical, reporting, and documentation skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• High attention to detail and strong organisational ability.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to tone and accuracy in emails.
• Proven experience dealing directly with customers in a professional environment.
• Confident communicator, able to influence across teams.
• Proactive, Sense of urgency, methodical, and solutions-focused.
• GCSE Maths and English (A*–C) or equivalent.

Desirable

• Experience with SALSA audits within production.
• Knowledge of Dynamics 365.
• Experience with stock ordering and stock management.
