Youth Housing Worker Full Time NEW

Term Full Time (35 hours per week, 6 month term) | Grid 13 ($30.86 – $32.18/hour) | Reporting to: Team Lead

Opportunity

PCRS is looking for an experienced Housing Worker to join the Surrey Youth Housing team. The successful candidate will bring a strong passion for working alongside young adults and supporting them to achieve housing stability. The Housing Worker provides housing focused, participant centred support to participants up to age 24 who are experiencing or are at imminent risk of homelessness, with a primary focus on rapid access to and retention of safe, stable, and affordable housing. The worker will apply strengths based, trauma informed approaches that prioritize youth choice, self determination, and individualized support.

The successful candidate will maintain a caseload, deliver community based outreach, and work collaboratively with participants to navigate housing systems and reduce barriers to housing stability. The role also includes coordination with landlords, shelters, safe houses, and community partners, as well as providing practical supports such as housing search assistance, landlord advocacy, mediation, and moving support to help participants exit homelessness and sustain housing over time.

Core hours of work: Monday to Friday 10:00am to 6:00pm as well as flexibility to meet participants needs that may include early mornings or evenings and occasional weekends.

This position is not eligible for a remote work agreement and is office and outreach based.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized housing supports to vulnerable youth who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in the Surrey area.
• Develop supportive and engaging relationships with youth, developing individualized service plans in consultation with youth participants.
• Maintain accurate case notes, monitoring youth progress, engagement and participation in the program.
• Other duties such as moving support and other administrative tasks may be required.
• Participate and engage in a collaborative and effective staff team.
• Communicate effectively with coworkers and staff, and participate in team efforts.
• Participate in professional development and training.

Qualifications

• B.A. in a related field and one (1) year related outreach experience, or a Child and Youth Care or related diploma plus two (2) years’ experience, OR a combination of education and related experience working with vulnerable youth
• Criminal Record Check including the vulnerable sector
• Class 5 Driver’s License with Business Use Insurance
• Use of own vehicle may be required (Mileage is paid); Drivers Abstract will be required
• First Aid

• Sound understanding of housing related documentation
• A thorough knowledge of relevant government legislation.
• Ability to respond to crisis scenarios using agency protocols and ethics.
• Effective team collaboration skills.
• Experience creating and working within a culturally inclusive environment for staff, partners, and participants.
• Strong verbal, interpersonal, presentation, and written communication skills.
• Excellent time management skills and the ability to handle multiple, often conflicting priorities.
• Work collaboratively with various stakeholders, such as government, families, related organizations, community organizations and service providers.M
• Meet with participants to identify their specific needs, goals, care planning, and passions as well as support their emotional wellness, physical health and a strong sense of identity and belonging.
