Role Description

Dolmans Garage is looking for a skilled and reliable Vehicle Mechanic / Auto Technician to join our busy workshop in Birmingham (B18). This is a full-time, on-site role for a Vehicle Mechanic/Auto Technician in Birmingham. The individual in this role will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of vehicles and heavy equipment. Day-to-day tasks include performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical and electronic issues, conducting inspections, and ensuring vehicles meet safety and operational standards.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough diagnostics using schematics and technical manuals to identify vehicle issues
• Complete MOT preparation work
• Perform repairs and maintenance on various vehicle systems, including engines, brakes, suspension, and electrical components
• Use hand tools and power tools safely and efficiently during repair procedures
• Assemble or replace parts as required, ensuring proper fit and function
• Carry out welding tasks where necessary to repair or modify vehicle components
• Maintain detailed records of work performed and parts utilised
• Assist with the routine servicing of vehicles to ensure ongoing safety and reliability
• Engage with customers professionally to explain repairs needed and provide updates on service progress
• Lift heavy components safely during repair or maintenance tasks
• Keep work area clean and safe

Experience

• Proven experience in vehicle repair or a related mechanical field is preferred
• Familiarity with reading and interpreting schematics and technical diagrams
• Strong mechanical knowledge encompassing various vehicle systems
• Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment
• Knowledge of maintenance procedures for automotive or industrial vehicles
• Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly
• Ability to perform heavy lifting safely as part of daily duties

Requirements

• Previous experience working as a mechanic
• Relevant certifications or training in automotive repair and maintenance are preferred
• Experience in customer service and managing repair timelines is a plus
• Good knowledge of vehicle systems and diagnostics
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Reliable and punctual
• Right to work in the UK
