Who We’re Looking For
The Highways and Engineering Service is seeking a motivated and highly organised individual with strong communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and a collaborative approach to join the team as an Apprentice Civil Engineering Technician.
This role provides an outstanding opportunity to gain experience across a broad range of civil engineering disciplines. These include the appraisal, design, construction, supervision, and project management of a diverse portfolio of exciting and challenging projects. Project areas may include tip safety, drainage, ground stability, contaminated land, transportation, traffic management, highways, public spaces, and other highway-related schemes and maintenance activities.
Applicants must demonstrate a genuine commitment to, and interest in, civil engineering, environmental engineering, and municipal engineering.
Once employed, the Apprentice will be based at our main office in Llys Cadwyn, Pontypridd and will rotate to our depots in Dinas and Abercynon throughout their two‑year placement.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must hold 5 GCSEs at grades A–C, including Mathematics, English, and a Science-based subject, or an equivalent qualification.
They must also be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
What Will You Study?
All apprentices will be supported to complete a Level 3 or Level 4 qualification in Construction & the Built Environment through a local college.
The level undertaken will depend on the applicant’s existing qualifications.
What will you be paid?
This Is a Fixed Term Post For a Two-year Period, Starting In September 2026. You Will Be Paid National Minimum Wage Dependent On Age

Important Eligibility Information
Due to the Apprenticeship entry criteria, we are unable to accept applications from anyone who has already achieved a similar qualification at Level 3/4 or above in the subject area of the apprenticeship they are applying for.
For Example
If you hold a degree in Civil Engineering, you would not be eligible to apply for a Civil Engineering apprenticeship. However, you would still be welcome to apply for any other apprenticeship pathway.Applications that do not meet the eligibility criteria will not be considered.
