Who We’re Looking For
The Accountancy Service is seeking a motivated and well‑organised individual with strong communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and a positive, team‑focused attitude. This apprenticeship is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to begin a career in finance and develop a solid foundation in public sector accountancy.
Working alongside experienced colleagues, you will gain practical experience in key financial processes, including maintaining records, supporting the closure of accounts, processing journal entries, assisting with reconciliations, and contributing to in‑year budget monitoring. You will also take part in regular training, one‑to‑one reviews, and on‑the‑job learning to support your progress towards the AAT Accounting qualification.
We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, reliable, and eager to learn, with a commitment to producing accurate work and contributing positively to the team. This role offers an excellent pathway into a professional finance career within the Council.
Entry Requirements
The applicant must possess 5 GCSE’s at A-C grade including Maths, English and a Science based subject or equivalent
What Will You Study?
All Apprentices will be supported to complete a qualification in AAT.
What will you be paid?
This Is a Fixed Term Post For a Two-year Period, Starting In September 2026. You Will Be Paid National Minimum Wage Dependent On Age

Important Eligibility Information
Due to the Apprenticeship entry criteria, we are unable to accept applications from anyone who has already achieved a similar qualification at Level 3 or above in the subject area of the apprenticeship they are applying for.
For Example
If you hold a degree in Civil Engineering, you would not be eligible to apply for a Civil Engineering apprenticeship. However, you would still be welcome to apply for any other apprenticeship pathway.
Applications that do not meet the eligibility criteria will not be considered.
