This role is defined as a safety critical role within the Drug & Alcohol Testing Procedure. You must therefore be willing to comply in accordance with this procedure.

About The Post

An exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of Barnsley Council ’s Street Lighting Team.

Required

We require an individual to work in our Street Lighting division, maintaining and installing streetlights , illuminated signs and bollards across the borough , you should be self-motivated and will be required to:

• To undertake general and specialist operational duties in all weathers which involve a wide range of physically and mentally demanding tasks.
• Driving general and specialist vehicle and machines with or without trailers or attachments
• To be responsible for the careful day to day use, maintenance, security of vehicles, machinery and equipment.
• To be customer focussed and deal with exchanges of information in a polite, courteous and positive manner responding possible to minor requests for service and where necessary report problems to your line manager.
• To undertake fault diagnosis and on-site assessments of the structural condition of street lighting equipment, reporting on findings.
• Emergency attendance following incidents to make safe damaged street lighting and electrical Apparatus, standby payments and overtime rates a pply.
• To work under the guidance of the line manager and by application of personal initiative deliver services to a professional standard within agreed procedures
• To work to agreed schedules and where necessary respond to new priorities as required or directed by line manager to ensure deadlines are met.
• To demonstrate safe working practices to other employees, apprentice’s, trainees and students where required .
• To comply with current Health & Safety, Customer Care, Dignity at Work and other relevant legislation, policies and procedures at all times
• To undertake any duties commensurate with the post as requested by management

You Must Hold The Following Qualifications

City & Guilds Electrical Level 3

City & Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing OR Extensive Equivalent Experience*

1 8 th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations

G39 – Working on DNO apparatus OR Extensive Equivalent Experience*

CSCS / ECS card

IPAF or willing to achieve within 6 months of employment

Driving Licence

• If you do not hold a level City & Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing & G39 – Working on DNO apparatus qualification then you must be able to demonstrate all criteria marked with an * to demonstrate comparative experience.
• If you do hold a level City & Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing & G39 – Working on DNO apparatus qualification, it is not necessary to demonstrate that you can meet the criteria marked with an *.
