We combine strategic thinking with deep technical expertise to create innovative, future-proof solutions that drive real business outcomes.

As a team we lead the design and technical direction of solutions across our Corporate, Public Sector, and Enterprise customer base. Operating across the full customer lifecycle—from early-stage engagement and presales through design activities, and handover to the implementation and support functions. Our team ensures that every solution is innovative, scalable, and aligned to the customer’s business objectives.

As a Senior Solutions Architect within the cloud solutions team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping technology outcomes for our customers, specifically focused on the AWS Platform. You will act as both a strategic advisor and a hands-on architect, translating business needs into practical, future-ready designs that can be successfully implemented by our internal delivery team, or directly by our customers. Your expertise will span multiple technology domains, allowing you to connect strategic vision with technical depth.

This role requires the ability to engage confidently with senior stakeholders, both internally and externally, influencing solution direction and ensuring alignment with best practice, governance, and architectural principles. You will also mentor junior team members and contribute to the ongoing evolution of our solution methodologies, helping to strengthen Softcat’s position as a trusted technology partner in the services market.

As Senior Solutions Architect – AWS, you’ll be responsible for:

• Continually demonstrate the skills and abilities of a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in AWS principles, including the pillars of the Well-Architected in AWS.
• Demonstrate and continually develop skills, expertise, and knowledge in the design of hybrid and cloud-based solutions and architectures, comprehensively covering key areas such as:

An In-depth understanding of:

• Workload migrations to AWS

▪ Including Workload migration planning

• AWS Funding schemes, such as MAP
• IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS offerings in AWS
• AWS Networking Principles
• AWS Security Principles
• Governance and Compliance Principles
• Backup and Restore
• DR strategy
• A broad understanding of key AWS Services
• Well-Architected Design Principles for both New and existing customer environments
• Demonstrate a keen interest in leading-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) with a view to delivering consultative services developed by Softcat to assist customer journeys.
• Demonstrate and continually develop skills and knowledge in key areas of value as identified by the Softcat cloud roadmap and service development strategies.

We’d love you to have

• You must have already achieved the AWS Solutions Architect Associate and Professional certifications; additional AWS-related certifications are also very beneficial.
• You should be able to demonstrate awareness of on-premises infrastructure technologies and how they map to AWS or other cloud services to enable smooth transitions for customers who are migrating to the cloud.
• Experience of working within a Managed Service Provider organisation and supporting Managed Service Customers would be of benefit.
• Awareness of Serverless technologies and how developers can use these to build scalable and robust services and applications.
• As a Senior AWS Solutions Architect, you will strive to maintain awareness of newly released services and improved capabilities on the AWS platform and disseminate this information to other members of the team.
• You will possess consultative skills in a presales context, with the ability to identify customer challenges, requirements, and business needs
• You should be able to work independently as well as part of a team to achieve results.
