Senior Accountant / Manager Full Time NEW

Overview

We are seeking an experienced, proactive, and highly organised Senior Accountant / Team Manager to join our growing accountancy practice. This is a senior-level role suited to an individual who is technically strong in accounts and tax, while also capable of managing a team, overseeing workflow, maintaining operational efficiency, and building strong client relationships.

The ideal candidate will be commercially aware, client-focused, and confident in taking ownership of workflow management, reviewing work, resolving technical queries, managing bookkeeping and management accounts functions, and supporting the overall growth and structure of the practice.

Key ResponsibilitiesAccounts & Financial Management

• Prepare and review statutory accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies
• Oversee the year-end accounts preparation and filing process
• Review bookkeeping and VAT returns prepared by junior staff and bookkeepers
• Manage the monthly and quarterly management accounts process across the practice
• Supervise and support the bookkeeping and management accounts team
• Ensure management accounts are completed accurately and delivered on time
• Analyse financial performance and provide practical recommendations to clients
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and HMRC requirements
• Assist with resolving technical accounting queries raised by team members

Tax Responsibilities

• Prepare and review personal tax returns, corporation tax returns, and partnership returns
• Deal with client tax queries and provide practical tax planning advice
• Ensure tax deadlines are met accurately and efficiently
• Assist with HMRC correspondence, investigations, and compliance matters
• Identify tax-saving opportunities for clients

Team Management & Practice Operations

• Manage and supervise junior accountants, trainees, bookkeepers, and support staff
• Review work completed by team members and provide constructive feedback
• Monitor workflow across bookkeeping, management accounts, VAT, year-end accounts, and tax departments
• Ensure deadlines are monitored and client work is completed efficiently
• Assist in allocating workloads and managing team capacity
• Support directors with operational and practice management responsibilities
• Help improve internal systems, processes, and workflow efficiency
• Assist with onboarding, training, and development of new staff members
• Create accountability and maintain high standards across the team
• Assist with implementing and maintaining SOPs and internal procedures

Client Relationship Management

• Hold client meetings and maintain strong professional relationships
• Act as a key point of contact for clients
• Communicate financial information clearly and professionally
• Provide high levels of client service and responsiveness
• Build trust with clients through proactive support and commercial understanding

Candidate RequirementsEssential

• ACCA / ACA / CTA qualified or qualified by experience
• Minimum 10 years’ experience within an accountancy practice
• Strong knowledge of UK accounts and tax compliance
• Experience reviewing accounts and supervising staff
• Experience managing bookkeeping and management accounts processes
• Experience managing or supervising a team within practice
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
• Confident dealing directly with clients
• Proficient in accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, and TaxCalc / IRIS
