About The Role (External)
About the team…
The Passenger and Station Analysis team plays a key role in shaping safe, efficient, and future-ready stations across the rail network. We apply safety guidance and advanced modelling techniques to assess station capacity, support design development, and ensure projects are delivered to a high standard. Our work spans all project stages, from early planning to completion, and includes auditing, data analysis, and stakeholder engagement. We’re committed to innovation, continuous improvement, and collaboration, driving solutions that meet passenger needs and support Network Rail’s strategic goals.
What does the average day look like?
Each day in this role offers a balance of technical work, collaboration, and strategic input. You’ll apply safety guidance to pedestrian movement, conduct station capacity assessments, and interpret data to support station development. You’ll help prepare remits and proposals, defining scope, analysis methods, and identifying risks across all PACE stages.
Using passenger modelling techniques, you’ll assess current and future demand, recommend improvements, and ensure compliance with design standards. You’ll support audits of modelling work, contribute to the development of internal guidance and best practices, and help maintain databases and productivity tools.
You’ll also work closely with internal and external stakeholders, building strong relationships to support project delivery and promote the work of the Passenger and Station Analysis team. Your contributions will directly impact the safety, efficiency, and performance of stations across the network.
Who are we looking for?
The role requires a relevant degree or equivalent experience, alongside strong analytical skills to solve modelling and appraisal challenges. You’ll need to communicate effectively, both in writing and presentations, tailoring your style to suit different audiences, including senior stakeholders. Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is essential, as is an understanding of project risk and how to apply it in day-to-day work.
