Face-to-face teaching is critical to rural program delivery as students build strong relationships with and benefit from more personal interaction with clinicians and other academics and become a part of the local medical community. UNSW’s program has strongly supported the aims of the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care, Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) program for over 25-years, delivering excellence in rural medical education and student experience.Details of the roleUNSW’s Education Focussed (EF) roles enable academics to specialise in education and devote their time to delivering high-quality teaching and pursuing initiatives to enhance the educational experience of our students.The role of Lecturer, Rural will be committed to high quality teaching with a demonstrated interest in local rural medical education, health issues and projects. This position holder will make a significant contribution to the undergraduate medical education program at the campus, with a strong focus on the application of ‘Basic Sciences in Clinical Medicine’ and/or ‘Multidisciplinary Care and Clinical Skills Techniques and application’.The role combines hands‑on teaching with opportunities to contribute to curriculum innovation, student mentoring and locally grounded research initiatives. You will build strong collaborative relationships across UNSW Rural campuses and health networks, while supporting students to develop clinical competence, teamwork capability and an understanding of rural health contexts.The position of Lecturer reports to the Director of Medical Education at the Wagga Wagga campus and has no direct reports.Some Key Skills RequiredA PhD in a relevant medical sciences field or health discipline with subsequent relevant work experience and professional expertise.Evidence and maintenance of professional development in pedagogy, disciplinary knowledge, and professional accreditation requirements.Evidence of teaching effectiveness in biomedical sciences and laboratory procedure, and a strong commitment to rurally focused teaching.Demonstrated experience and technical knowledge in laboratory management, set‑up and use of equipment, and maintenance including regulatory compliance and safety management.Demonstrated experience in large and small group teaching.Develop and pursue local research initiatives and supervise Independent Learning Project (ILP) students, as appropriate.Please refer to the position description for full details.UNSW Benefits And Culture17% Superannuation and leave loading Flexible working Additional 3 days of leave over the Christmas Period Access to lifelong learning and career development Progressive HR practices More information on the great staff benefits and culture can be found here.Pre-Employment ChecksAligned with UNSW’s focus on cultivating a workplace defined by safety, ethical conduct, and strong integrity preferred candidates will be required to participate in a combination of pre-employment checks relevant to the role they have applied for.
