Lecturer (Academic) in Corporate Law (Fixed-term) Full Time

The newly established School of Law and Society is looking to appoint a Lecturer (Academic) in Corporate Law (Fixed term) to its teaching team to strengthen the delivery of corporate law in its suite of law programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Successful applicants will play a large role in delivering teaching of corporate law across our LLB Law, LLB Legal Practice SQE and LLM Legal Practice SQE programmes. We particularly invite applicants who would also be able to contribute to the leadership and teaching of at least one of the following subject areas: contract law, tort law, land law or employment law. The candidate should also undertake research that aligns with BU’s 2035 strategy. We also expect successful candidates to assist with embedding the university within the professional legal community through continued engagement with our partner solicitor firms, chambers, public bodies, NGOs and alumni.

About The Department

At the School of Law and Society we combine the teaching and world-leading research of law, criminology, and sociology to create socially conscious and commercially aware graduates who understand the impact of their professions on society. This interdisciplinary socio-legal approach creates resilient graduates who appreciate how their learning is being constantly disrupted and reshaped by the challenges of the 21st century. Our law degrees are innovative in how they ingrain the professional community into their design, delivery, and evaluation, to ensure we develop employment ready graduates. BU graduates lead in the employment statistics of the law firms in the South-West. Our sociology and criminology courses examine the social, political, economic, cultural and psychological dynamics of local and global communities, as well as how crime and criminal justice shape the societies we live in. Over 90% of sociology and criminology graduates are employed or doing PG study within 15 months of graduating.

The School of Law and Society also has a flourishing research, innovation and knowledge exchange culture in law centred around the Centre for Intellectual Property Policy & Management (CIPPM), the MagPIE project (a £1.6 million funded project from the European Research Council & UKRI to develop a human rights framework relating to the protection and investigation of mass graves, and our Future Fridays Legal Skills Workshops. Successful candidates will benefit of developing opportunities within this thriving RIKE environment and are expected to engage and contribute to its further enhancement.
