The Data Centre and Operations team is responsible for managing, maintaining and supporting the University’s virtual and physical server infrastructure and storage platforms. This underpinning infrastructure is critical to the successful delivery of teaching and learning, research activity, and the full range of administrative and support services across the University.
To support this essential function, we are seeking an IT Infrastructure Engineer to join the Data Centre and Operations team within the wider Infrastructure Services Group. This is a key role focused on the ongoing maintenance, support and development of the University’s server, storage and data centre environment. The postholder will work closely with colleagues across Infrastructure, Network & Security, Client Services and academic teams to ensure resilient, secure and high‑performing services that meet the University’s evolving needs.
The Role:
As an IT Infrastructure Engineer, you will play a key role in the day‑to‑day operation, monitoring and support of the University’s virtual and physical server infrastructure. You will also contribute to project delivery and ongoing service improvements, helping to enhance the performance, resilience and capability of core IT services.
Working closely with infrastructure and network specialists, you will manage service requests, investigate and resolve incidents, and ensure systems remain secure, resilient and highly available for both staff and students. The role provides exposure to a broad and technically diverse environment, supporting enterprise services alongside research‑enabling platforms such as High-Performance Computing (HPC), virtual research environments, Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems.
