IT Business Systems Lead (Contract)

Contract Length: 3–6 months, with potential extension – Interim Cover

A well-established UK organisation is seeking an experienced IT Business Systems Lead on a contract basis to take ownership of its core business systems and drive operational efficiency and continuous improvement.

This is a hands-on role combining systems management, strategic oversight, and stakeholder collaboration, with a strong focus on delivering tangible improvements across ERP and business-critical platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the organisation’s core business systems, including ERP and document management platforms
• Lead system optimisation, performance improvements, and continuous enhancement initiatives
• Manage ERP administration, including database management, configuration, performance tuning, and user access
• Oversee document management systems, ensuring robust structure, governance, and permissions
• Support integration between business systems and internal applications to improve data flow and efficiency
• Collaborate with stakeholders across departments to align systems with business processes and identify improvements
• Deliver system upgrades, enhancements, and improvement projects within agreed timelines
• Ensure robust data backup, disaster recovery, and system resilience
• Maintain clear and accurate system documentation, procedures, and user guides
• Provide user training and support to drive adoption and effective system use
• Offer hands-on support where required, including troubleshooting, deployments, and vendor coordination
• Support the wider IT environment including software, hardware, and network infrastructure

Skills & Experience

• Proven experience managing enterprise business systems, particularly ERP platforms
• Strong SQL experience (queries, views, stored procedures)
• Experience integrating multiple systems and improving workflows
• Knowledge of document management systems and information governance
• Broad understanding of IT infrastructure (Microsoft environments, Active Directory, networking fundamentals)
• Experience supporting and training users on business-critical systems
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Desirable

• Experience implementing or upgrading ERP systems
• Exposure to data integration or transformation tools
• Knowledge of Azure and enterprise networking environments
• Experience delivering IT projects or system improvement initiatives
