As a charity supporting children and young people, including those with SEND needs, it is essential that we have clear, consistent, and effective HR processes in place. These foundations ensure that our staff and volunteers are well supported, enabling them to deliver safe, high-quality services to the young people and families we work with.
Over the course of this 6-month project, the volunteer will help us build and embed core areas of the HR function, including onboarding, recruitment processes, employee experience, and key policies.

What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone who is reliable, proactive, and able to work at pace in a hands-on environment.
Essential
- Prior experience in HR, People, or an administrative role with HR exposure
- Understanding of basic HR processes (e.g. onboarding, recruitment, employee lifecycle)
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to take ownership of tasks and follow through to completion
- Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively
Desirable
- Experience using HR systems (e.g. BrightHR or similar)
- Exposure to policy writing, documentation, or process improvement
- Interest in building HR functions or improving people practices

What will you be doing?
We are looking for a proactive and hands-on HR Project Volunteer to support a 6-month project focused on building the HR function from the ground up at Bright Futures 4 All — a growing charity supporting children and young people, including those with SEND needs.
This is a unique opportunity to work directly with the HR Lead and play a key role in creating the people foundations that will support the organisation’s growth, including its longer-term vision of expanding into a full-time school.
You will be involved in implementing and shaping core areas of the employee lifecycle, helping to bring structure, consistency, and a positive people experience across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting the implementation and optimisation of our HR system (BrightHR)
- Creating and refining HR templates, documents, and processes
- Supporting the development of onboarding and induction frameworks
- Assisting with recruitment coordination and improving candidate experience
- Supporting employee engagement initiatives
- Assisting with performance review processes and documentation
- Supporting the development of an employee handbook and policies
- Helping structure and organise our growing volunteer workforce
This is a hands-on, fast-paced role, where you will be actively contributing to deliverables and helping drive progress — not just observing.
