Company: Peter Harrington (US)Location: Third Floor, 35 East 67th Street, New York, NY 10065Hours: Monday–Friday, 10am–6pm, with occasional private appointments on Saturdays and attendance at weekend book fairsSalary: $160,000–$200,000, plus bonuses (dependent on experience)Benefits: Comprehensive health insurance (details provided at offer stage); 25 days paid time off (inclusive of 7 observed federal holidays), plus 10 days sick leave.Reports to: Pom HarringtonAbout the rolePeter Harrington is seeking to appoint an experienced rare books specialist to lead our New York gallery and oversee the company’s US operations. This senior role combines business leadership, client development, and specialist expertise, and will play an important part in shaping the continued growth of the business in North America.You will also work closely with William Reese Company, acquired through a partnership between Peter Harrington and James Cummins Bookseller in 2022, and located just a few blocks from our New York gallery.The role requires deep knowledge of rare books, strong commercial instincts, and the ability to build lasting relationships with collectors and institutions. You will lead a small team of booksellers and cataloguers while acting as a key representative of the business in the American market.ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain relationships with collectors and institutions across the US and internationally.Source and secure material for acquisition.Collaborate with the UK team on North American book fairs and events.Lead and support the New York gallery team.Liaise with UK-based departments and senior leadership as required.Represent the company publicly and with the media as needed.Essential skills and experienceMinimum of 10 years’ experience working with rare books.Proven experience managing and developing a team.Strong commercial skills, with experience in buying and/or selling.Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.What does the hiring process look like?Applicants can expect the following:First interview: Conducted via Teams or in person with members of the senior team (typically including the Owner, Sales Manager, and Head of Cataloguing).
