We’re looking for a Head of Operations to lead our Bogie Service Centre, taking overall responsibility for the safe, compliant and efficient delivery of bogie and wheelset programmes in line with customer and fleet requirements. You’ll lead a multi functional team in a complex, safety critical environment, building strong relationships with key customers and driving high performance across safety, quality, cost and reliability. Through collaborative leadership and innovative thinking, you’ll support continuous improvement and deputise for the General Manager when required.
The Lincoln Bogie Service Centre, established in 2018, currently overhauls all bogies and wheelsets for the Siemens UK fleets, with annual capacity of over 1,400 bogies and 2,600 wheelsets. From the outset, Lincoln was a temporary location, with the long term plan to relocate to the new Goole Rail Village. As part of Siemens Mobility’s £200m+ investment in Goole, the purpose built Bogie Service Centre is nearing completion, with initial bogie and wheelset lines installed by the end of July. The first bogie overhaul programme will begin in October 2026, with Lincoln closing in Q1 2027 and staff and equipment transferring to Goole, doubling overall capacity. The new 12,000 sqm facility will use the latest technology and lean principles and will form part of the UK’s first rail village of its kind, bringing manufacture, overhaul, warehousing and testing together on one site.
The successful candidates will be site-based at our Goole Rail Village but in the interim, temporarily based in Lincoln due to development of new site.
You‘ll make a difference by ….
- Safely leading all BSC operations across the Lincoln and Goole sites, ensuring strong performance across safety, quality, cost, delivery, and people.
- Owning operational delivery end to end, using clear KPIs to drive performance, manage risk, and quickly address any deviation from plan.
- Championing a zero harm safety culture, leading by example and embedding safe systems of work across all activities.
- Driving operational excellence and continuous improvement, improving productivity, efficiency, and quality in a fast paced environment.
- Leading the introduction of new programmes and overhauls, delivering complex operational change in a structured, project led way.
- Developing high performing and engaged teams, setting clear expectations, investing in capability, and confidently leading difficult conversations when required.
- Managing significant operational budgets, balancing commercial, operational, and people priorities to deliver against plan.
- Acting as a visible, values led leader, building strong relationships with customers and stakeholders while role modelling integrity, resilience, and accountability.
Essential
What you’ll need to succeed…
- An engineering degree or equivalent experience in engineering or operational management.
- Proven experience in large‑scale manufacturing or complex operational environments.
- A strong track record of leading multi‑functional teams in rail, production, or fast‑moving settings.
- Solid understanding of manufacturing systems, planning, capacity management, and assembly processes.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with a collaborative approach.
- Commercial awareness, including contract, budget, and cost management experience.
- Practical experience applying continuous improvement and driving operational performance.
- Project or change leadership experience, including introducing new programmes or operational change.
Preferred
- MBA or postgraduate qualification.
- Experience in rolling stock, industrial, or automotive production environments.
- Experience supporting or leading cultural change initiatives
