As an independent UK regulator, BSR collects, processes, and produces a significant volume of information to support its regulatory functions and protect public safety. to ensure the safety of the public in and around buildings. We have legal obligations to ensure that we are managing this information in accordance with our statutory obligations and that we are both accountable and transparent in our decision making.The postholder will be establish and lead the Knowledge and Information Management (KIM) corporate function. This will require building a new KIM Team and establishing and shaping new frameworks to ensure compliance with UK information laws, including the Public Records Acts, Freedom of Information, and Data Protection laws.The role will act as the organisation’s statutory Data Protection Officer (DPO) and Departmental Records Officer (DRO) which requires effective working with key external bodies such as The National Archives and the Information Commissioner’s Office. The role will set strategic direction for BSR on how it delivers compliant, proportionate information governance across its information estate and will provide independent assurance to BSR’s management board on compliance and information risk.This is an exciting opportunity to form and shape information governance in a new and important organisation, embedding good practice from day one and supporting transparency, trust and effective decision-making.Working PatternPart time working hours are available for this role. We can accept part time applicants who can commit to working a minimum of 30 hours per week.TravelThis post can be based in any of the advertised locations however there may be the need to travel to other HSE offices on occasion for team meetings which may also include an overnight stay.Job DescriptionThe government announced on 30 June 2025 that the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) is to become an Arm’s Length Body (ALB) of Ministry for Housing, Communities, and Local Government (MHCLG) and will be moved out of HSE. This is the natural next step in the development of the regulator and was always a likely outcome once BSR was established.It has been confirmed that the ALB will be a Non-crown, Non-Departmental Public Body (NDPB), and as such its employees will be Public Servants, rather than Civil Servants.Any successful candidates that are currently Civil Servants should note that they will be onboarded directly into the new NDPB.
