Head of Environment, Health, and Safety Full Time

Head of SHEQI’m currently representing a well-established and highly respected main contractor with a strong reputation across London and the South East. Due to continued growth and a strong project pipeline, they are now seeking an experienced Head of SHEQ to lead and drive their Safety, Health, Environment & Quality function across the business.This is a senior leadership opportunity for someone looking to make a genuine impact within a contractor known for delivering complex residential, regeneration, and new build projects. The RoleReporting directly into senior leadership, the successful candidate will take ownership of the company’s SHEQ strategy, ensuring best practice, compliance, and continuous improvement are embedded throughout the organisation.You will play a key role in shaping culture, influencing operational teams, and maintaining the highest standards across both office and site environments.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and develop the company-wide SHEQ strategyEnsure compliance with current UK legislation and industry standardsOversee and maintain ISO management systems, including ISO 45001Provide guidance on building safety and temporary works proceduresLead audits, inspections, investigations, and corrective actionsSupport operational and pre-construction teams on risk management and complianceDrive behavioural safety initiatives and continuous improvementManage and mentor the SHEQ team across multiple projectsProduce board-level reports and performance updatesLiaise with external bodies, regulators, and stakeholders where requiredRequirementsProven experience in a senior SHEQ / Health & Safety leadership role within a main contractor environmentStrong knowledge of UK construction legislation and compliance frameworksExperience managing ISO systems and driving audit performanceExcellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skillsAbility to influence at all levels of the businessChartered IOSH status (CMIOSH) preferredExperience across residential, refurbishment, regeneration or new build projects would be advantageousWhat’s on OfferOpportunity to join a recognised and financially stable contractorStrong pipeline of secured projectsSupportive senior leadership teamCareer progression and long-term stabilityCompetitive salary and comprehensive benefits package
