ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
The position is based in London, UK, and reports to Deputy Director of Private Partnerships.
To contribute to a world with Zero Hunger, WFP is investing in and growing private sector fundraising and partnerships to reach more people. Fundraising from individuals can deliver significant revenue and loyal donors, as well as valuable flexible funds. During WFP’s Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) strategy (2025 – 2030) income from individuals is estimated to grow to USD 340m p.a. by 2030.
It is critical that the investment in this programme to raise funds from individuals is as effective as possible: generating a high return on every dollar invested and attracting loyal donors who will continue to support WFP’s work for many years.
THE ROLE
The main purpose of this role is to lead Individual Giving at WFP to maximize existing, new and future revenue streams with the aim of significantly increasing annual income from this donor segment by 2030, with a meaningful proportion being flexible funding and progressing to achieve at least 50% in sustainable income p.a. from a solid base of committed regular donors over the period.
This role will strategically lead WFP to deliver the ambitious revenue targets while achieving key performance indicators and returns on the significant organizational investments in growth. The position will have operational management and oversight of the programme including this investment – people, partners, budget, marketing, technology and risk to ensure the delivery of a high performing fundraising programme attracting and retaining hundreds of thousands of supporters. The position will strive to continuously optimize, whilst also seeking to innovate to seize opportunities and further scale the programme into new language and country markets, in addition to supporting local and regional approaches for WFP Country Offices and Regional Offices.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive, within delegated authority):
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Education: Advanced university degree in Communications, Business, Economics, Political Science, International Development, Marketing or other relevant field, or first university degree with additional years of related work experience or training/courses.
Experience: Minimum 11 years of progressive experience in individual giving fundraising, ideally including experience at the international level in the UN, or large charitable organization, or marketing agency working with multiple clients. At least 4 years of experience managing international teams in a revenue generating role.
Desired experiences for entry into the role:
Language: Fluency (level C) in English language. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or Portuguese (a WFP working language).
