ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The position is based in London, UK, and reports to Deputy Director of Private Partnerships.

To contribute to a world with Zero Hunger, WFP is investing in and growing private sector fundraising and partnerships to reach more people. Fundraising from individuals can deliver significant revenue and loyal donors, as well as valuable flexible funds. During WFP’s Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) strategy (2025 – 2030) income from individuals is estimated to grow to USD 340m p.a. by 2030.

It is critical that the investment in this programme to raise funds from individuals is as effective as possible: generating a high return on every dollar invested and attracting loyal donors who will continue to support WFP’s work for many years.

THE ROLE

The main purpose of this role is to lead Individual Giving at WFP to maximize existing, new and future revenue streams with the aim of significantly increasing annual income from this donor segment by 2030, with a meaningful proportion being flexible funding and progressing to achieve at least 50% in sustainable income p.a. from a solid base of committed regular donors over the period.

This role will strategically lead WFP to deliver the ambitious revenue targets while achieving key performance indicators and returns on the significant organizational investments in growth. The position will have operational management and oversight of the programme including this investment – people, partners, budget, marketing, technology and risk to ensure the delivery of a high performing fundraising programme attracting and retaining hundreds of thousands of supporters. The position will strive to continuously optimize, whilst also seeking to innovate to seize opportunities and further scale the programme into new language and country markets, in addition to supporting local and regional approaches for WFP Country Offices and Regional Offices.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive, within delegated authority):

• In close collaboration with PSP Leadership, develop the overall IG strategy, annual forecast, investment plans and priorities to deliver to agreed income targets with results achieving required KPIs and returns, in line with board approved investment and growth projections
• Lead the team to deliver progressive income growth and develop new and innovative ways of attracting and inspiring supporters to commit to helping hungry people –including the use of artificial intelligence, creatives and utilizing pro-bono expertise offered to the organization
• Oversee a multi-million-dollar budget (including operational and investment budgets)and deploy financial and other resources to maximize returns and build future capacity
• Lead and manage a high-performing, cross-functional team of 30 + people located across the globe to achieve agreed income growth. Ensuring capacity is in place to deliver to current targets and to scale up for future growth and evolution of the programme
• Provide strategic recommendations to divisional leadership on investment decisions across the WFPs individual fundraising programme
• Work in collaboration with Global and Country offices to localize Individual fundraising to maximize both donor value and volume – striking an important balance between global fundraising expertise and WFP’s local market/donor knowledge
• Provide regular performance and trend reports for senior leadership, advising on opportunities to accelerate growth as well as where course corrections are needed
• Foster a collaborative culture that is purpose-driven, informed by data and insights, and committed to delivering an excellent supporter experience. Develop and supervise a coordinated work plan for all IG team members providing advice, guidance and support to all staff under your supervision
• Continue the track record of attracting and nurturing a talented and high-performing team of experts
• Ensure that risks are identified, and mitigation strategies are in place in an externally evolving ecosystem including data compliance, privacy and protection standards are met
• Coordinate with counterparts in the Communications (COM) team to develop and deliver high-quality, engaging content that effectively supports donor acquisition and retention, ensuring alignment with best practices and audience insights.
• Provide guidance to Friends organizations, Global Offices, partnership managers, and other staff on fundraising from individuals.
• Track the global developments in the fundraising sector, and beyond, maintaining relationships with key contacts in the digital and fundraising industry.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education: Advanced university degree in Communications, Business, Economics, Political Science, International Development, Marketing or other relevant field, or first university degree with additional years of related work experience or training/courses.

Experience: Minimum 11 years of progressive experience in individual giving fundraising, ideally including experience at the international level in the UN, or large charitable organization, or marketing agency working with multiple clients. At least 4 years of experience managing international teams in a revenue generating role.

Desired experiences for entry into the role:

• Experience across the full spectrum of individual giving including acquisition and retention of mass market donors (single and regular), as well as mid- and high-value supporters.
• Proven expertise in individual donor/supporter conversion and development and donor acquisition in multiple markets.
• Experience managing and deploying a marketing budget as well as guiding specialized individual giving fundraising agencies and providers.
• Track record of commitment to understanding the behaviour of supporters and how this drives revenue as well as to building supporter loyalty and growing sustainable income for organizations including from regular givers and generating unrestricted funds.
• Experience managing international teams and leading them through strategy development and implementation with a focus on delivering to targets.
• Extensive and proven experience of working in a fast-paced international environment – delivering results across multiple countries – with demonstrable insights into regional and market opportunities and challenges.
• Experience engaging on content creation and utilizing technology to enhance giving.

Language: Fluency (level C) in English language. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or Portuguese (a WFP working language).

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

• This is an International Professional position and is open to all nationalities.
• Mobility is and continues to be a core contractual requirement in WFP. This position is however classified as “non-rotational” which means the incumbent shall not be subject to the regular reassignment process unless the position is reclassified as rotational.
• The selected candidate will be employed on a fixed-term contract with a probationary period of one year.
• This position is open to both internal and external candidates.
