An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Director of Choirs to join the Music Centre.
Key duties include planning and delivering weekly rehearsals for the UEA Choir and UEA Chamber Choir, conducting their Christmas Concert, Chamber Choir concerts, and other performances as required, preparing and warming up singers on concert days, and supporting the development of healthy vocal technique. They will lead recruitment, auditions, and selection of new members, contribute specialist expertise to Music Scholarship and Music Centre Award panels, and work with the Music Director and student committees to plan engaging repertoire. The role also involves supporting the development of the choirs, liaising with the Music Centre Administrator to ensure resources are available, contributing to choir webpages and rehearsal materials, and deputising for the Music Director when required.
You must have a degree-level music qualification or equivalent professional experience and a strong professional musical background, with proven experience as a chorus master or choral conductor at higher education, cathedral, or comparable professional level. In addition, you must have an advanced vocal knowledge and the ability to teach healthy vocal technique to singers of varying experience, excellent rehearsal technique, and the ability to achieve high musical standards within limited rehearsal time.
The contract is available from 1 September 2026, renewably annually, with the possibly to extend up to three years. It is anticipated that the hours required will average approximately 22 hours per month (plus preparation time) and will be worked during a 7-month period, September to March, each year and individuals will be self-employed.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
