The role sits within our senior data leadership team and reports to the VP Data. The ideal candidate bridges the gap between technical execution and business value. You won’t be checking boxes for compliance; you will be an advocate for data ownership, quality, and literacy across the organisation, but also own the change and implementation.The roleOperationalise Ownership: You work directly with engineering and product squads to define and implement what it means to “own” a data domain. You’ll own to help them move from “I just build the app” to “I provide high-quality data products.Implement the “Data as a Product” culture: hold teams accountable on treating data with the same rigor as software – including versioning, data contracts, SLAs/SLOs, and clear documentation.Hands-on Quality Frameworks: Don’t just set standards; implement them. You’ll own defining data quality dimensions (accuracy, completeness, freshness) and setting up automated monitoring.Define and own the Metadata Strategy: Lead the effort in making our data discoverable.You’ll ensure our data catalog is a living and breathing resource for the whole company.Pragmatic Governance: Create a balance between governance to ensure security and privacy without slowing down the pace of innovation.Bridge Technical & Legal Compliance: Partner closely with the Legal team to translate complex privacy regulations into actionable technical processes. You will lead the implementation of automated Data Subject Access Requests (DSAR) and design pragmatic Data Retention & Deletion policies that keep us compliant without hindering performance.What We’re Looking ForPassionate about Funding Circle’s values and the mission to support small businesses with their finance needs.Subject matter expertise: ideally you have a finance or credit card background working in data analytics or data governance.Proficiency in SQL and a good understanding in modern data stacks (e.g., Snowflake, dbt, Airflow) as well as how governance tools integrate into a CI/CD workflow.Exceptional “translator” skill: You can talk about data contracts with engineering and ROI with product, being able to move confidently between those worlds.We’re building a place where everyone truly feels they belong.
