About The Role
Working within the Data and Analytics Delivery department, the Data Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting the society’s data migration and integration initiatives. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract position designed to focus on transitioning data into the new data ecosystem, ensuring seamless integration and high-quality data management. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing robust data engineering solutions that align with business objectives and technical standards. This role involves challenging existing processes, tools, and methodologies to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of data operations. The Data Engineer will also undertake review and assurance activities, providing guidance to team members on best practices in design, build, and testing activities. Adhering to coding standards and quality assurance protocols, the individual will ensure timely delivery of solutions that meet business requirements. The role requires a proactive approach to testing, including analyzing requirements, designing test cases and scripts, preparing test data, and executing tests to verify the integrity and performance of data solutions. The position adopts a hybrid working model, with at least one day per week in either the Coventry or Manchester office, promoting collaboration and team engagement.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in data engineering, with relevant experience in data migration, integration, and management. A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field is preferred. Proven expertise in SQL, Python, or other programming languages used in data engineering is essential. Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, as well as familiarity with data warehousing solutions like Snowflake, Redshift, or similar, is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a solid understanding of data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, and data quality assurance techniques. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team are crucial. Strong communication skills are necessary to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Prior experience working in financial services or regulated environments will be considered an advantage.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the Data Engineer include designing and developing scalable data pipelines and solutions that facilitate efficient data migration and integration. You will review existing data processes, identify areas for improvement, and implement innovative solutions to enhance data quality and accessibility. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including data analysts, architects, and business stakeholders, to gather requirements and deliver fit-for-purpose data solutions is key. You will be responsible for writing clean, efficient, and well-documented code that adheres to organizational standards. Ensuring data security and compliance with relevant regulations is a critical aspect of the role. You will conduct thorough testing of data solutions, including creating test cases, preparing test data, executing tests, and documenting results. Providing guidance and mentorship to junior team members, supporting their development and ensuring best practices are followed, is also part of your responsibilities. Additionally, you will stay updated on the latest industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve data engineering practices within the organization.
