Purpose of Job:
a. Making certain that community and sector stakeholders have opportunities to engage
b. Supporting the use of innovative solutions for community engagement that are seen as industry leading
c. Ensuring engagement activity is delivered within agreed quality and time parameters and meets the requirements of both the council and communities
Main Duties:
Community engagement
1. Play a supportive and proactive part in the organisation of communities and stakeholder engagement events, ensuring they are well managed and attended, delivered on time and within budget constraints
2. When necessary, support and provide advice to colleagues within the council for their engagement activity and be available to collaborate with them on the delivery of their own engagement plans and projects
3. Research and establish if required and facilitate when appropriate the development and delivery of community and public meetings, forums and focus groups independently and alongside potential third sector organisations (face-to-face and online)
4. Support the stakeholder community in being involved in engagement activity and Royal Greenwich colleagues by sharing the tools necessary to effectively contribute to engagement activities and consultations
5. Support, develop and implement a range of involvement initiatives both based on a menu of different engagement options that seek to engage stakeholders and communities on their terms and in ways that they feel comfortable to express their views
6. In a personalised and community centred approach, continually review the ways that we involve hard-to-reach groups and provide suggestions for improvements utilising non-traditional forms of engagement
7. Foster great community relationships with Greenwich organisations, sector groups and associations, the third sector, charities and internally across directorates
8. Facilitate and co-ordinate benchmarking activity
9. Ensure community organisations, partners and the third sector are all able to participate in engagement activity, and be involved in the co-designing of activities when appropriate
Communications and events
10. Support the creation of engagement activity materials as necessary for communications to communities and relevant stakeholders, ensuring that the information is clear, provides the right level of detail and avoids the use of jargon
11. Support and feed into the development of events within the community and the council to maximise engagement opportunities
12. Propose new community engagement events to support Council priorities
Monitoring and administration
13. Undertake any administration, reporting, monitoring and data management of engagement activity contributing to the centrally managed data collection process
14. Contribute to the ongoing annual engagement and consultation forward plan
Post and sector
15. Contribute to the development of procedures for the engagement and participation team as a whole
16. Adhere to safe working/health and safety practices in a role that carries out of office/lone work
17. Attend project, activity and team meetings to ensure all stakeholder needs are considered, during the design and delivery of activities
18. Deputise for the team as needed and when absent in the postholder’s own service areas
19. Produce and upkeep an engagement log which registers all engagement activity
20. Keep up to date with sector changes for continuous improvement to the delivery of this post’s workload
21. Ensure delivery of engagement activity in line with Royal Greenwich’s community engagement
framework, strategy, annual plan and Our Greenwich with the aim of increasing the impact and effectiveness of engagement

22. To undertake any other work appropriate to the level and general nature of the post’s duties.
23. Where necessary for the job role or appropriate for continued development in the role, the post holder may be required to participate in training and development courses made available via the Council’s Apprentice Levy funding.
24. To undertake all duties with due regard to the provisions of health and safety regulations and legislation, Data Protection/GDPR, the Council’s Equal Opportunities and Customer Care policies.
25. To perform all duties in line with Council’s staff values showing commitment to improving residents’ lives and opportunities, demonstrating respect and fairness, taking ownership, working towards doing things better and working together across the council.
26. To ensure that appropriate levels of emergency planning and business continuity management preparedness are in place for the service, and that your teams are appropriately briefed on their roles in an emergency.”
27. You may be required to undertake alternative, additional or ancillary duties from time to time or transfer to another service department within the Council as the Council may reasonably direct to meet service user demand in the event of a crisis or emergency.
