We are now seeking an experienced and motivated Climate Emergency Officer to join our friendly and supportive Environment & Sustainability Service, working as part of the Council’s Climate Change Team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering our Nature & Climate Emergency Strategy and supporting the transition to a low carbon, climate resilient district.
About the role
As Climate Emergency Officer, you will provide technical expertise and professional advice to help the Council and its partners respond effectively to climate change. You will develop and deliver a range of climate mitigation and adaptation projects, working across multiple themes such as energy, transport, buildings and retrofit, climate adaptation, food, land use and nature.
You will work closely with colleagues, councillors, communities, businesses, organisations and external partners, using evidence, data and analysis to inform decision making, manage risk and secure funding for climate action.
The role involves both strategic thinking and practical project delivery, helping to turn policy into action across the Forest of Dean.
You will need
A degree level qualification (or equivalent experience) in climate change, environmental science, geography or a related field
Strong understanding of climate change science, policy and targets
Experience delivering or supporting climate or sustainability projects, ideally involving multiple partners
Excellent communication and report writing skills, with the ability to explain complex issues clearly
Experience of working collaboratively with communities, stakeholders or organisations to bring about change
Strong organisational and analytical skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
Confidence working independently, using initiative and sound judgement
A constructive, solutions focused approach and the ability to work well as part of a team
Experience of project management, funding bids, working with elected members, or professional accreditation in a relevant field would be an advantage but is not essential.
A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel for work purposes are required.
