Charity Chair & Trustee Full Time NEW

Join Kids Against Racism (KAR) and help us drive real, tangible change. We are a proactive, pragmatic organisation dedicated to challenging and dismantling racism, specifically as it affects children and young people. We believe that small steps lead to big changes, and we are looking for passionate individuals who are ready to steer our mission forward. As a member of our team, you will play a vital role in our governance, ensuring that KAR remains rooted in the communities we serve while navigating the realities and demands of social justice work.

We are seeking dedicated and skilled individuals to join our Board of Trustees, including Chair and Treasurer. These are voluntary leadership roles giving the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the governance and impact of our charity.

Person Specification

To ensure a well-balanced and effective board, we are looking for individuals who demonstrate the following:

• Commitment to Mission: a deep, demonstrated alignment with KAR’s ethos of anti-racism and a passion for advocating for the rights and well-being of children and young people.
• Strategic & Ethical Leadership: experience in exercising sound judgment and decision-making, with a commitment to upholding transparency, integrity, and the legal duties required by the Charity Commission.
• Collaborative Team Player: a strong capacity to work as part of a collective team, valuing open communication, mutual support, and a collaborative board culture.
• Professional Expertise: proven experience in one or more of the following areas: Finance/Budgeting, Safeguarding, HR, Public Relations/Communications, Education/Local Government, Fundraising, or Digital/Web Management. Previous experience working with charities is desirable.
• Constructive Critical Thinking: offering objective, supportive and constructive guidance to the organisation.
• Community Engagement: a proactive approach to building visibility, whether through social media, networking or public engagement, to help sustain and grow the charity’s impact.
• Commitment to Representation: an understanding of and dedication to our core mission of Black leadership, including a willingness to uphold our structural safeguard of maintaining at least 51% Black representation on the board.
• Availability & Engagement: ability to attend a minimum of 6 trustee meetings per year, with a willingness to invest the time required to contribute to strategic planning and remain informed on relevant social justice issues.

The amount of hours worked each month is negotiable, but we are looking for someone who can commit to make a significant impact.

The role is primarily remote with flexible hours to be arranged around charity commitments e.g. events and trustee meetings.
