Job Description
Organisation: CBC Ltd
Salary: £38,682-£46,580 (NHS band 6 or equivalent)
Working hours: 37.5 hours
Contract: 24 month fixed term. Possibility to extend subject to business planning. The appointment to this role is open to loans or secondments.
Place of work: CBC Ltd Offices (Cambridge Biomedical Campus, CB2 0QQ) at least three days a week, with some home working if desired.
About Us
The Cambridge Biomedical Campus (CBC) is one of the largest and most dynamic centres of healthcare, research and life sciences in Europe, with a national and international reputation for excellence. Home to world-leading hospitals, research institutes, universities and industry partners, the Campus brings together clinical care, academia and commercial innovation in a unique, collaborative environment.
CBC Ltd, a non-profit company, was formed in 2021 by the largest organisations on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, providing a vehicle to enable collective action, and deliver our shared ambition to be the world’s leading biomedical campus, as set out in our 2050 Vision. Members of CBC Ltd are the University of Cambridge, AstraZeneca, Abcam, MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust and Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The Campus employs more than 22,000 people, a figure expected to grow to over 40,000 by 2050. Each year, activities on the Campus generate over £4.7 billion in gross value added to the UK economy. In 2023, the UK Government reaffirmed its commitment to realising Cambridge’s potential as a global life sciences hub, recognising the strategic importance of the Campus nationally and internationally.
CBC Ltd is a small, fast-evolving organisation at the heart of this growth, coordinating shared priorities that shape how the Campus functions as both a place and a community. We are committed to partnership, sustainability and delivering solutions. Priorities for the current year include supporting the delivery of the 5 year Travel & Transport Plan (2024-2029). The ambition of the plan is to support all to be able to access the Campus easily, efficiently and sustainably and support the creation of an exemplar ‘sustainable travel’ Campus environment, which encourages active, healthy and sustainable travel. All organisations on the Campus will work in partnership to help deliver this plan. Currently we are preparing for the opening of the Cambridge South train station, and implementing projects overseen by the Campus Transport and Travel Group, which brings together travel and transport leads from member organisations and external agencies.
The role has an integral contribution to how the campus functions as a place and a presence on campus is expected at least three days a week.
Role Summary:
Travel and transport is a strategic priority for our growing campus. · Compassion: Recognising and responding to the needs of patients and colleagues
· Excellence: Making a difference with each small improvement and by being open to new ways of working
· Collaboration: Achieving more together
In considering whether to apply for the post you should consider whether you understand and feel able to live our Values.
Why Join Us?
This role sits at the optimal balance between governance and delivery – creating the conditions in which meaningful travel and transport improvements can be realised across the campus.
You will play a central role in shaping how travel and transport is managed, monitored and improved in a complex, high-profile environment, with the opportunity to influence strategic decisions and see tangible outcomes.
CBC Ltd Structure:
This role will report to the CBC Ltd Head of Policy and Strategic Partnerships, Kate Hallett, in CBC Ltd whilst working very closely with the Campus Travel and Transport Group Chair, Rachel Northfield, of Cambridge University Hospital to underpin and support the work of that group.
Before submitting your application
Please read this job description thoroughly before submitting your application. As well as meeting the essential requirements of the person specification, be sure that you can demonstrate commitment to our Values, teamwork, reliable attendance, dedication and the ability to show compassion, care and respect to co-workers, patients, and visitors.
CBC Ltd is an equal opportunities employer. Employment will be directly with CBC Ltd, although for applicants already on an NHS contract you may wish to consider if a secondment might be possible, or there may be some flexibility to explore employment with one of CBCL’s member NHS Foundation Trusts.
All applicants must have existing eligibility to work in the UK. CBCL will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
To apply:
Please submit your CV (max two pages) along with a cover letter (no more than one page) outlining your interest in the role, how your skills and experience align with the requirements, and relevant achievements to Jobs@cambridgebiocampus.co.uk.
