Job Purpose

As the Bill Production Analyst you will gain an understanding of all aspects of the document production processes which are business critical to Domestic Retail billing of customers.

United Utilities produces over 9m bills and letters to customers each year and the work you do will provide essential support to the Bill Production Controller who is responsible for the smooth running of this operation.

The role includes a variety of aspects to it such as dealing with suppliers, planning and implementing changes, responding to incidents and supporting resolution plans, document design and how this is controlled.

Document print services are provided by a third party supplier so the role will include working with them to ensure the services provided meet the required standards and resolving any issues that may arise on a day-to-day basis with their account manager.

What You Will Be Doing:

• Support timely and accurate document production by reconciling outputs, maintaining forecasts, and assisting with main and half‑year billing planning.
• Drive continuous improvement by reviewing document formats, content, print and postage processes, and conducting trend analysis to identify issues or efficiencies.
• Support the design, implementation, and governance of document templates and controlling specifications through the Change Request process, including post‑release validation.
• Maintain document control by managing SharePoint libraries, supporting unbilled account reviews, and developing understanding of Alto and Debt Manager output file structures.
• Liaise with internal colleagues and external print suppliers to resolve queries, attend service review meetings, and ensure accurate supplier invoicing and smooth day‑to‑day operations.

What We Are Looking For:

• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and workload management skills, with the ability to work independently or in support of a Bill Production Controller.
• Proven capability to interrogate billing systems, understand billing cycles, document production processes, and apply UU billing policies within a regulatory framework.
• Ability to handle customer‑facing billing issues and escalations quickly, professionally, and effectively.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, working confidently with internal colleagues and external third‑party suppliers to resolve document and billing queries.
• Experience in process improvement, supported by strong Excel skills (Excel and Visio advantageous) for analysis, reporting and process mapping.

• The role holder will be expected to make decisions on their work priority
• The analyst will be expected to make decisions on the best way to resolve an issue, working within the regulatory framework and on a case by case basis, ensuring excellent customer service at all times
• The role holder will be able to determine when an issue requires escalation
• Any changes to be made that result in changes to documents issued to customers must receive appropriate approval first
• Changes requiring expenditure with third party suppliers must receive approval first
