Charities exist to do good. But good intentions don’t balance themselves against a bank statement.

Mindful Business Services Ltd supports small charities and non-profit organisations with their financial and administrative needs – many of them faith buildings that hire out their spaces to fund the work they do. We’re looking for a qualified Bookkeeper to join our growing team on a self-employed basis.

The role

You’ll work directly with a range of charity clients, handling the financial side of their operations – from monthly bank reconciliations and accounting reports to credit control, budget preparation, and setting up payments. You’ll liaise with clients on their financial concerns and keep their books accurate, compliant, and up to date.

Our Finance & Admin room bookings team handles the front-line client and hirer support, so you can focus on what you do best. Familiarity with Hallmaster (our booking and invoicing platform) is helpful for reconciliation purposes, but full training is provided. If you’d like to expand into that area further down the line, the door is open.

What we’re looking for

• A bookkeeping qualification equivalent to AAT or ICB Level 3 (AAT, ICB, or IAB)
• A current bookkeeping licence with a recognised and regulated body (confirming ICO membership and adequate professional insurance)
• Proven experience in a financial role, managing multiple clients or workloads
• Strong working knowledge of Excel and cloud-based accounting software – we currently use Xero, Zoho, Liberty, and QuickBooks
• Comfortable with remote working tools including Dropbox, Zoom, and Trello
• UK/EU GDPR compliant in all data handling
• Clear, confident communication – you’ll be speaking directly with clients

The practicalities

This is a self-employed, flexible role designed to sit alongside your existing work. Starting from a minimum of five hours per month, most of our bookkeepers work between 10 and 60 hours. Workload and client assignments are negotiated with you directly. The team meets monthly on a Tuesday lunchtime.
