Applications are invited for this new post to provide senior leadership in the Cambridge Old Age Psychiatry Research Group in the Department of Psychiatry in relation to dementia research.
The group’s research aims are primarily the study of imaging and other biomarkers in dementia, the identification of risk and protective factors for prevention and clinical trials. There is a particular interest and focus in Lewy body dementia. The group is a key part of several collaborations including the Dementias Platform UK, the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre dementia theme and the Translational Research Collaboration in Dementia (TRC-D), the Research Delivery Network, the European DLB consortium (E-DLB) and the International Consortium for DLB (IC-DLB). Our work is supported by several funders including MRC, NIHR, the Alzheimer’s Society, ARUK and other charities.
This is a post supported by Essex Partnership University Foundation Trust (EPUT) and the post holder would be expected to spend three days a week undertaking clinical activity within that Trust and two days research in the department. The post holder will provide clinical leadership and medical supervision to the Old Age community Mental Health Team in the Epping Forest North locality. The community team is shared with the Epping Forest South locality and comprises of a senior practitioner, CPNs, care homes liaison nurses, support workers and a psychologist. The postholder will be expected to work closely with Essex Social Services and the voluntary sector within the multidisciplinary setup. Epping Forest locality has several well-established Memory Clinics and receives approximately 20-25 new referrals per week.
The post holder will offer guidance to local GPs on the management of mental illness in the community, including many local care homes according to local protocols and shared-care guidelines. We are looking for candidates who are credible as future independent research leaders, capable of raising grant income as principal applicants to peer-reviewed funding agencies, professionally managing research staff, and inspiring and educating students especially at postgraduate level. We are seeking individuals whose research interests are a good fit with the current focus of dementia research, but who bring additional expertise to the group. We are especially interested in candidates whose intellectual credibility as independent scientists is matched by their commitment to enhancing clinical services in the NHS.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment. This appointment also requires an Honorary Clinical Contract.
