About the Role
This role sits within IT Services as part of the AI & Automation (AAA) Programme, a strategic initiative to embed artificial intelligence and automation across Queen Mary University of London’s operations. The programme is building a secure, cloud-native AI platform on Microsoft Azure and Kubernetes, which will serve as the university’s central capability for deploying LLM-powered agents and automation workflows
About You
This is a hands-on development role requiring deep technical skill in modern cloud-native development and a strong interest in the rapidly evolving field of AI/LLM engineering. The postholder will contribute directly to use cases that improve services for students, academics, and professional services staff across the university.
The AI Platform Developer will join a small, high-impact engineering team responsible for building, testing, and operating the core platform and its initial use cases. The role reports to the Programme Director for AI Automation, App & Strategy and works closely with solution architects, product owners, and stakeholders from across the university.
About the Department
The IT Services function operates within the Professional Services Department, part of the professional services group that enables and facilitates the success of our students and faculty. Together with other professional service areas, the Enterprise Architecture team aims to deliver value for money through technology, ensuring efficiency, economy, effectiveness, and equity.
About Queen Mary
At Queen Mary University of London, we believe that a diversity of ideas helps us achieve the previously unthinkable.
Throughout our history, we’ve fostered social justice and improved lives through academic excellence. And we continue to live and breathe this spirit today, not because it’s simply ‘the right thing to do’ but for what it helps us achieve and the intellectual brilliance it delivers.
Our reformer heritage informs our conviction that great ideas can and should come from anywhere. It’s an approach that has brought results across the globe, from the communities of east London to the favelas of Rio de Janeiro.
We continue to embrace diversity of thought and opinion in everything we do, in the belief that when views collide, disciplines interact, and perspectives intersect, truly original thought takes form.

We offer competitive salaries, access to a generous pension scheme, 30 days’ leave per annum (pro-rata for part-time/fixed-term), a season ticket loan scheme and access to a comprehensive range of personal and professional development opportunities.
