CMA, a Community Interest Company (CIC), was created in 2008 to raise awareness of the wide range of career opportunities in the Marine sector, delivering vocational training and work experience to young people aged 9 to 24 and support their employability and progression onto further education, an Apprenticeship or a job.

CMA supports learners aged 9-18 using UK funding and fee-paying commercial income. It supports a wide range of businesses ambassadors to engage young people through site visits, inspirational talks and work experience placements across all sectors (including but not limited to Marine) and both within Cornwall and across the South West of England.

Purpose: CMA is seeking a Freelance Job Coach, to provide training and support to Interns with barriers to learning including (when in the workplace); SEND, NEET’s, business co-workers and families on a Supported Internship Programme across Cornwall (All supported interns are young people aged 16-24 with SEND, who have an (Education Health Care) EHC plan.

To ensure the Interns success during their workplace rotations and to seek out job opportunities both within and outside the host employer, so Interns can make successful transitions into paid employment.

Reports to: Cornwall Marine Academy CIC Director (supported by CMA Education & Training Development Manager)

Contract: Freelance (flexible role) specifically seeking tutors in Falmouth, Camborne-Pool-Redruth areas and Hayle.

• Flexible schedule – we will endeavour work around your availability
• Weekdays only – working hours outside of 9am – 5pm may be required on occasion though
• In-person delivery in Cornwall, with some online sessions possibly required
• Must have enhanced DBS and recent Safeguarding & Prevent training or be willing to obtain
• Remuneration/ Hourly Rate: £15 per hour, £12 per hour for travel time and 45p per mile

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Actively support young people (with learning difficulties and disabilities into and at work using systematic techniques to teach roles and tasks) aged 16-24 who are participating in the Supported Internship Programme. Providing them with job search skills and support within the work place
2. The Job Coach will provide ongoing support for the interns working in various employment sites across Cornwall
3. Continually assess and collaborate with each young person both formally and informally to create an adaptable, personalised vocational profile and individual learning plan
4. Support learners with travel arrangements (for example, planning routes, getting bus passes or accompanying them on initial journeys) and arranging visits to the workplace prior to starting a job
5. Provide individualised support for interns at the host business, including job coaching, identifying placements, performing job analysis and job matching activities
6. Support employers or providers to make reasonable adjustments and reduce barriers to employment for young people with SEND
7. Work with employers to understand roles that learners or interns will fill so that tasks can be broken down and introduced in appropriate ways. This could include creating supporting materials such as job description, task lists, maps and plans etc)
8. Monitor learners work performance and provide feedback and prompts when needed
9. Create and maintain necessary paperwork and documentation to support and evidence the programme using IT based systems, including providing evidence and tracking for student qualifications and contributing to creating and updating student targets and updating ILP system and writing of risk assessments
10. Support Learners developing job skills, writing CV’s and applying for job roles or placements
11. Coordinate with other Job Coaches and meet with the supported internship tutor daily to prioritise and distribute workload ensuring that each young person is provided with the appropriate levels of support and discuss interns progress, working in collaboration
12. Demonstrate innovative approaches to employer engagement through marketing and promotion in order to identify and secure potential opportunities for paid employment both within and outside the host employer
13. Develop partnerships with local employers to identify employment opportunities for learners and linking with local Job Centres
14. Provide continual support and guidance, ensuring the progression of learners after entering paid employment
15. Provide training and coaching to host business and external employers actively promoting the benefits of employing people with SEND
16. Comply with essential company policies e.g. Safeguarding, Equality & Diversity and Health & Safety
17. Undertake other such duties of a similar nature as required by the CMA CIC team
18. Attendance at caseload reviews and standardisation meetings with Training delivery and Quality Manager (if required)
