The role
As Policy Officer, you’ll be at the heart of Energy Saving Trust’s work to shape energy and climate policy. You’ll track and provide clear insights into policy and political developments across UK Government and help develop compelling, evidence-led positions that improve policy outcomes in England (and selected UK-wide areas).
Working closely with colleagues across the organisation, you’ll draw on our delivery experience and external evidence to produce impactful briefings, consultation responses and other policy outputs. You’ll build trusted relationships with key stakeholders so our expertise is heard where it matters most. This is a role for someone who enjoys joining the dots: policy, politics, evidence and impact.
The team
You’ll join our Policy & Government Relations team, playing a pivotal role in translating real-world delivery insight into policy development and influencing. We work closely with colleagues across the organisation (including PR and Content) to turn evidence into clear recommendations, build constructive relationships with decision-makers, and ensure our expertise helps shape national and local policy.
What you will do
Monitor and interpret UK Government policy and political developments (UK-wide, GB-wide, England/Wales and England-only as relevant).
Develop and advocate Energy Saving Trust’s policy positions, especially on home decarbonisation and related energy and climate issues.
Draft high-quality policy briefings, reports, consultation responses and submissions to calls for evidence (e.g., UK Government/Welsh Government, local government, Parliamentary Committees).
Build and maintain relationships with key policy and political stakeholders, including officials and Ministers, to support wider influencing activity.
Support senior colleagues with briefings, presentations and speaking notes.
Share timely policy intelligence across the organisation.
Work with PR and Content to support thought leadership, press releases, blogs and social content.
What you will bring
Understanding of energy and climate policy (ideally home decarbonisation or community energy), gained through work, study or volunteering.
Strong stakeholder engagement skills and evidence of influencing decision-makers.
Well developed writing and communication skills, able to explain complex issues clearly for different audiences.
Experience working collaboratively with PR/Content colleagues.
Strong organisation skills and ability to manage competing deadlines.
